1 Scrapbook Rachelle Leung Surface Area and Volume (high school Geometry) 6 Informational websites: This webpage lists the formulas (with images and a short description) for the area of prisms, volume of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres. There is a quiz at the end but for some reason it wouldn't load on my computer. This webpage is a formula list for area, volume, and surface areas. Each formula is accompanied by an image with appropriate labels. The website includes explanations for Geometry word problems like: - find the volume given the surface area - real life surface area and composite area - the box problem (volume) - the goat problem (composite circle sector area) This website also has pages on polyhedron, platonic solids, prism, pyramids, sphere, torus, cylinder, cone, and talks about their surface area and volume. This website is colorful with images and some interactive animations. This website feels like a textbook. It is organized by these sections: 8.1 Introduction to solid geometry 8.2 Prism 8.3 The cuboid and the cube 8.4 Cylinders 8.5 Pyramids 8.6 Right circular cone 8.7 Sphere This website gives the surface area & volume formulas for a sphere, cone, cylinder, Rectangular Prism, Square Based Pyramid, and Isosceles Triangular Prism. It also gives the formulas for the Area of a Circle Sector, Surface Area of An Elipse, and Length of an Arc. 6 Educational websites + 7 WebQuests: These pages on solid 3D geometry collect together interative Java resources on the Platonic solids, pyramids, prisms, polyhedra, impossible objects, constructing 3-dimensional shapes, isometric views, etc. I used this website last year to show front/back/side/top/bottom views of 3D objects. This website uses images, interactive animations, quick checks, and a test at the end. Its topics include 3D shapes, surface area & volume, Euler's Theorem, and platonic solids. This textbook website provides self-check quizzes for every lesson. Click on "Chapter 12 - Surface Area and Volume" to get the links to the quizzes for each lesson.
2 Interactive games, including ones for Perimeter, Area and Volume. Galactic Geometry is a 3D educational game that offers an exciting environment for serious learning about geometric figures. As obstacles hurtle toward them, players calculate volume and surface area. A flash site that goes over finding the volume & surface area of a cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, and sphere. There are quick checks where you enter the answer. This Webquest is designed to help you get a handle on volume. I really like it, bc it explains the process and also uses real world examples (via Google Map). It also has a rubric and quiz at the end. Title: It's a Volume Party, but who invited Surface Area? Description: An exploration into volume and surface are Title: How Much Water Do We Need? Description: Students will calculate the amount of water needed to fill all their "tanks" located in their fictitious home. Afterwards, they will calculate the cost to fill these "tanks". Title: Surface Area and Volume Description: MS 4.2 Calculates surface area of rectangular and triangular prisms and volume of right prisms and cylinders Title: Planet Contour Description: In this WebQuest, students will learn about geometric solids, volume, and surface area by researching and drawing plans for a city with specific solids required. (grades 6-8) Title: The Environmental Consumer Description: This webquest challenges students to compare surface area and volume as they apply to real-world environmental issues. Title: The Amazing Maths Race Description: Students will travel around the world on the web and discover different wonders of the world and examine them mathematically in a race with their fellow classmates. 11 Images with weblink captions:

An introduction, concept map, calendar, rubric, anchor video, parent letter, lesson plans, and other resources are included. "Creating a Vending Machine" is a project where students study and utilize volume, surface area, and coordinate systems using three dimensional objects. An introduction, anchor video, concept map, project calendar, lesson plans, letter to parents, and other resources are included.
8 ns.pdf This activity gives complex problems in dimensional change, surface area, and symmetry. The corresponding movie uses a real-world professional in the field to talk about how math is used in their job. This website gives lessons for the entire year in keynote, powerpoint, pdf, and handouts. Week 27 covers volume. This webpages gives a presentation, worksheet, and lab over measuring the volume of liquids and regular solids as well as using graduated cylinders and overflow cans to find the volume of irregular objects (rocks). This would be a good way to integrate science. This website introduces the terminology used with surface area and volume. The interactive animations let students use scroll bars to adjust the length, width, and height of prisms, as well as the view by rotating the figure. It may be too basic for high school geometry (more for middle school geometry) This webpage is a multimedia lesson (video that pause to give quick multiple-choice checks) over Surface Area and Volume. The video includes voice and handwriting. Sound files, movies clips, etc.: This movie clip from "Star Trek" (2009) shows young Spock learning math, including the formula (4pi/3)r^3 for the volume of the sphere.
