1 St Wilfrid s CE Primary School PE and Sports Premium Funding The government has committed funding of 150 million each year from 2013 to 2016 to be invested solely in Primary School Sport. The aim is to increase the quality & breadth of PE & Sport provision, and increase participation and enjoyment in PE & Sport. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in school. We receive 8000, plus 5 per pupil on roll. At St Wilfrid s CE Primary School we are currently improving the variety and quality of PE and sporting opportunities we provide that contribute towards being a Healthy School. The PE team, which is led by Mr Goodwin, have the responsibility for developing PE and sport but all staff are being trained to be committed to providing excellent provision and contribute to deciding upon the effective use of Sport Premium Funding. 6 The Impact of School PE and Sports Premium Funding in The Sports Premium, introduced by the previous Headteacher had currently been used to supplement midday pupil activities, delivered by an external sports company. This impacted on: The continued development of lunchtime extra-curricular opportunities ensured that all pupils had access to quality P.E. teaching and learning during lunchtime. Through structured use of specialist sports coaches and afterschool clubs, children in the school have scheduled extra sport activities that they can access. Increased enjoyment in competitive sports through in school engagement in a wider range of sporting activities between schools. Initiative Impact Extra-Curricular Opportunities The company Junior Sports Stars were employed to provide a variety of extra-curricular clubs and activities including: multi sports, dodgeball and football. No competitions were organised for the children to take part in across the schools in which the company provided sporting related activities. Employment of specialist coaches The children had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities at lunchtime. Unfortunately this did not involve the opportunity for children to have the opportunity to take part in PE lessons delivered by the specialists or the teaching staff to have the opportunity to observe and teach alongside the coaches to improve their own teaching, skills and confidence to be able to deliver excellent PE lessons. No competitions were organised at the end of each term and no focus was given for the children or goals to reach. This initiative will not continue from May 2016 (a term s notice was required to cancel the contract). 6
