2 Livingston Dance Academy Home of the award winning Livingston Starliners Dance Team Dance Registration begins: Monday, August 29th for Residents Tuesday, September 6th for Non Residents Dance Class Locations Northland Recreation Center- 3 Madison Court, at the end of Jefferson Court Monmouth Court Community Center (MCCC)- 26 Monmouth Court Senior Community Center (SCC)- 204 Hillside Ave. (973) Dance Program Fees Program fees include classes from September 2016 June 2017 and dance costumes Additional late fee of $10.00 per class for registrations after the deadline of Friday, September 9th. Dance Academy Classes 1 class- $345 per class 2 or more classes- $330 per class NR Fee- $365 NR Fee- $350 Dance Classes with the * (Asterisk) 1 class- $ 380 per class 2 or more classes- $365 per class NR Fee- $400 NR Fee- $385 All Pointe Ballet Classes $355 (This class meets twice per week on Monday and Wednesday) NR Fee $375 All Baton Only Classes $180 per class NR Fee- $200 Starliners Competition Team $450 (Additional competition entry fees will apply) NR Fee- $475 Instructors will assess ability level over the first few weeks and may make recommendations to parents on moving up or down a level based on the students ability. Dance Classes Begin September 19th, 2016 and end the week of June 12th, 2017
3 DANCE TEAM Last Call for all those thinking about joining the Starliners! Team Auditions: (for Dancers 2nd grade and up) Wednesday, September 7, 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Northland Recreation Center All potential team dancers who missed our June auditions must register for auditions online or at the Senior Community Center and then attend the full two hour audition. There is no fee for auditions. All dancers will be notified via by Thursday, September 8, 2016 if they have made the team. Once notified, dancers must re- register online or at the Senior Community Center to pay the fee. The first team rehearsal will be Friday, September 9, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. for all Starliner Dancers. There will be a mandatory parent meeting following the first practice at 6:00 p.m. Team Requirements: All dancers must make a minimum 90% of all practices to compete at competitions. Instructors will make all decisions regarding competition numbers and participation in performances. The Township will only cover the cost of the first group dance competition fee. Additional competition fees will apply. Dancers must meet proficiency requirements in ballet, jazz, tap and lyrical styles as determined by instructional staff. Students must be enrolled in at least one tap, one jazz, and one ballet class. Acceptable jazz classes include Kids on Broadway, Hip Hop/Jazz Combo classes, Lyrical Jazz, Jumps & Turns Jazz, and Jazz. Dance Team Cost $450 additional competition fees will apply. $475 (Non Resident) Auditions for the Starliners will be held in June Watch for the 2017 Spring/Summer Program Guide for details.
4 Dance Class Descriptions Creative Dance Ballet and movement oriented programs designed to introduce students to ballet movements and improve overall body awareness. These classes do not include tap instruction. Ballet & Jazz Classes Classes will focus on the fundamentals of ballet and jazz techniques. All students will work on traditional ballet barre, center floor balance work and movement technique. Students should select the class appropriate to their grade level. Jumps & Turns Jazz Classes will focus on strengthening the dancers jumps and turning techniques. These tricks will be infused into combinations worthy of competitive dance techniques. Tap Classes Classes will focus on tap dance fundamentals that will result in solid training in all tap techniques. Classes will increase in technique difficulty as part of a comprehensive program. Hip Hop Classes Classes will teach a combination of classical jazz moves infused with hip hop, funk dance to popular pop and hip hop songs. Lyrical Dance The "Poetry of dance. Lyrical is a combination of jazz, ballet and modern techniques. Expressive in style, lyrical dance is usually set to a song with words that the dancer interprets through movement. Ballet training is recommended as a prerequisite to this class. Baton Classes Baton twirling improves eye-hand coordination, balance and core strength. Techniques will increase in difficulty according to grade level. Participants in this program march in the Livingston Memorial Day Parade as well as perform in the annual Recital. Twirlers must provide their own baton, which can be purchased at a music store. Kids on Broadway (3rd grade & up) Explore the world of Musical Theatre. Venturing into the history of Broadway, this class will focus on Broadway styles of dance, physical acting and song. Preschool Dance Medley- Students will work on basic motor skills as they learn new dance movements in ballet, jazz and hip hop. Preschool Boys Intro to Dance- Boys will work on basic motor skills as they learn new dance movements in ballet, jazz and hip hop For Monday 4:45PM and Saturday 2PM Ballet and Intermediate Ballet classes, students should register for Ballet. On the first day of class, instructors will separate the dancers into levels and divide the group into the two classes, Beginner Ballet and Intermediate Ballet.

We request dancers wear solid colors to class. Participants with long hair should have their hair tied back before class each week. Pink ballet slippers are required for Creative Dance, Preschool Dance Medley and Ballet and black Jazz shoes are required for all jazz classes. Tap shoes are required for tap classes.. Dance sneakers are required for Hip Hop. Lyrical classes require foot undeez style lyrical shoes. The studio does not provide or sell shoes. All baton class participants must provide their own batons, which are available at most music stores.

All classes will be canceled if public schools are closed. This also applies with early dismissals due to inclement weather. There will be not be any make up classes due to inclement weather. 8 Annual Dance Recital The annual dance and Baton Recital is usually held the third Saturday in June. The recital is a ticketed event that will showcase performances from each class. The schedule during recital week will include up to two extra afternoon practices. Participation in these rehearsals is mandatory. Detailed information about the rehearsal and recital schedule is released each year in April. Ticket information is also released in April. Costumes for recital are provided by Senior, Youth and Leisure Services and the cost is included in your registration fee.
