When we accept in faith the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist and serve one another with love and mercy, then, as St. Augustine taught: we become what we receive. The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life.... For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself... by the Eucharistic celebration we already unite ourselves with the heavenly liturgy and anticipate eternal life... In brief, the Eucharist is the sum and summary of our faith. Exode 24, 3-8 Psaume 115 Hébreux 9, Marc 14, Chers Amis, cette année, la Solennité du Corps et du Sang du Christ communément appelé «fête Dieu,» met l accent sur l enracinement de l Eucharistie dans les traditions cultuelles du peuple de la Bible et, par elles, dans le tréfonds des religions ancestrales. Le sang, c est la vie. Tout vivant meurt s il est vidé de son sang. Là se trouve le fondement de la pratique immémoriale des sacrifices rituels et de leur signification Acte d adoration, le sacrifice des animaux proclame que toute vie vient de Dieu et lui appartient. Il est en même temps acte d offrande : avec le sang des animaux, on offre symboliquement sa propre vie à Dieu. Depuis le Sinaï au moins, la Bible a intégré ces rites, dans un contexte de foi et de culte qui élargit considérablement la signification et la portée premières de ces rites. Plus tard, la célébration de la Pâque annuelle, renouvellement de l Alliance, et celle du «Jour des expiations», le «Yom Kippour» les ont considérablement enrichis. En outre, «Mémorial» des «merveilles» accomplies par le Seigneur en faveur de son peuple, le sacrifice offert à Dieu implique toujours la promesse de lui rester attaché dans la fidélité à la Loi de vie qu il a révélée. Enfin, le sacrifice est un rite de communion : Dieu redonne en plénitude la vie qui lui est offerte. Le Seigneur est notre refuge assuré et notre force. (Psaume 27 :8-9). Nous avons la certitude qu il nous délivrera de nos péchés. L amour de son saint Nom et notre attachement filial stimulera notre persévérance dans le bien. Il exaucera nos prières, il affermit notre âme et manifestera toujours ses miséricordes. Puis nourris des dons de la sainte Communion, vraie source de vie, de force et de vigueur, nous pourrons plus aisément renoncer au péché et vivre en Christ, dompter nos sensibilités, notre égoïsme étroit, et détruire en nous tout mauvais penchant, pour nous attacher à Lui avec plus d'amour et d enthousiasme. Jesus promise to be with us always is fulfilled in the Eucharist. At the Passover meal, Jesus took the bread; blessed it, broke it, gave it to his disciples, and He gave it to us. We are blessed to eat the Bread of Life when we gather for Mass as a faithful, faith-filled community, but Eucharist doesn t end at the closing hymn. We are sent forth to spread the Good News: Go!
