2 The Investiture of the Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach Join us and share this exciting moment in the life of our Church! The Service of Investiture for The Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach, Archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America, will take place at 7pm on October 9th, 2014 at the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, Georgia. All are invited to attend. There is no cost, but the planning team would appreciate your RSVP through the office of St. John s Anglican Church. Please see below. A reception will immediately follow the service sponsored by the Anglican Global Mission Partners. Take the stress out the the ride in afternoon traffic in Atlanta as you travel with us by Tystanic Bus to the Investiture at the Church of the Apostles. You ll be able to enjoy the ride and have no parking problems Cost for the bus ride round trip is $27 per person. We will be leaving St. John s on Thursday, October 9 th at 1:30 PM and returning following the brief reception. Seats are limited and we have opened this opportunity to our brothers and sisters at St. Mark s in Moultrie. Call the office, and reserve your ride!

3 Fall God and Country Community Prayer Service To Be Held on October 26 th! Ruthie Garner, known to most as a producer and television host for WALB, has graciously agreed to be the keynote speaker. As a cancer survivor, Ruthie has a deep belief in the power of prayer. The service will be held at Lenny s Market at 3:00 PM with music by Joyful Noise. Just days prior to the election, the service will be focused on our community, state and nation. Never has prayer been so needed for this country! The best advertising is by word of mouth so get the news out! Invite all you meet to join us for this important time of prayer. Held annually on the first Sunday in October in downtown Americus on the sidewalks next to SB&T from 2:30 to 3:30. The purpose of the event is to pray and stand for the sanctity of life. We at St. John s join Central Baptist and the event s sponsor, the Crisis Pregnancy Center, in the belief that life begins at conception and every child has a righ to live. This is a peaceful and non-confrontational way to take a stand for Jesus Christ. Put on your St. John s tee shirt and bring a chair to SB&T on Sunday, October 5 th at 2:30 to pray and stand up for Life in Christ. Man to Man: Sharing the Christan Faith in a Pluralistic Society 2014 Anglican/Episcopal Men s Conference September 12-14, St. Luke s Church in Blue Ridge, GA Featured speaker is The Rev. Canon Dr. John Macdonald who serves as Associate Professor of Mission and Evangelism at Trinity School for Ministry, Ambridge, PA Cost is $75.00 for three day conference. The goal of the conference is to prepare men for the Church in the 21 st Century. Applications can be picked up at the St. John s office.

Early in my business career I was on brand teams within our company s marketing department. Very often the efforts of the marketing department were to put new packaging on a dying brand without improving the product. My task, as a representative of the sales department, was to insist that the products efficacy be enhanced giving us a story to tell and simultaneously build the brand. I can t tell you how many viable brands I witnessed die a slow and painful death because of the unwillingness of the company to take a risk and invest energy, capital and reputation to save the product. Today we see and lament as churches die in their witness. Primarily, they find themselves in the death knell because they have refused to invest their hearts, time and reputation to stand for and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Instead, like the products above, they are filled with cultural Christians who are more like the world than the Body of Christ and refuse to let the Holy Spirit change the effectiveness of their lives. As I reflect on the past three years and the journey we have been on together at St. John s, there is much reason to give glory and thanksgiving to God. We are a loving and caring community. We have been blessed by God. Most of our congregation migrated from a church where the most important features of the community were a beautiful building, having fun and being like society. Those who left for St. John s have been divided by Jesus Christ that His story might be told in word, action and obedience. The community is watching and they want to know: 1) Do we really believe what we profess. 2) Do we really live what we profess? 3) Does standing for Christ really make a difference in our lives? 4) Can Jesus Christ really change the world? It is time for us to truly recognize what Christ has done at St. John s and examine if our lives and ministry answers these four questions in a resoundingly positive manner. Led by the Holy Spirit we must give ourselves to live as a church differently in mission and action than all the others in town. We must accept being different, no, we must embrace it! Because Jesus is counting on us to not just have a beautiful package; instead He insists we be a new and improved witness of His love and salvation for Americus.
