Remove brake hubs and drill one 11/16 hole in each backing plate where the manufacturer has provided a pilot hole marked with a red plastic knock-out. 2. Insert a 3/8 nylon hose adaptor (item #4) in the hole and secure it with a conduit nut (item #8). Do the same on the other backing plate. 3. Fasten the Frame Bracket (item #7) to the trailer with your right rear undercarriage u-bolt. Insert the garden hose adaptor (item #5). 4. Now measure three lengths of hose. One piece from the left backing plate hose adaptor across the axle to a point about 6 to 8 inside the right side leaf spring. Attach the hose to the hose adaptor in the left backing plate with a hose clamp (item #2). Use several tie wraps (item #6) to attach the hose adaptor to the axle being careful not to pull the tie wraps too tight, kinking the hose. At the other end attach the hose tee (item #3) with a hose clamp. Then run a second length of hose from the hose tee to the hose adaptor in the right hand backing plate, attaching it with a hose clamp. Finally, run a third piece of hose from the hose tee to the hose adaptor on the frame clip and attach it with a hose clamp. Now add tie wraps as necessary. BEARING BUDDY MAINTENANCE Your PACIFIC TRAILER is factory equipped with BEARING BUDDYS. Bearing Buddy prevents wheel bearing failure by keeping water and other contaminants out of hubs. The spring loaded piston of the Bearing Buddy, pushing against grease inside the hub, holds a slight (3 lbs. p.s.i.), constant pressure inside the hub. Because there is always more pressure inside the hub than outside (even when the trailer hubs are submerged) water can t enter. Hubs must be full of grease with the piston positioned about 1/8 outward from the seated position to develop pressure. To check a Bearing Buddy, simply push on the EDGE of the piston. If you can rock it, the hub is filled. If not, add grease through the Zerk fitting to move the piston slightly (1/8 ) outward. Checking when hubs are warm minimizes overfilling. Checking prior to launching ensures full hubs when the axle is submerged. Adding grease after submersion may be too late. However, please be cautious not to arbitrarily fill your Bearing Buddys as you may over fill them. If your trailer is equipped with Bearing Buddys that feature the Auto Check visual indicator ring, you may check your grease level visually. If the blue ring is slightly outward from the steel retaining ring, the hub is properly filled. If the blue ring has receded flush with the steel ring, add grease until the blue ring starts to move. When adding grease, do so manually and use a good quality #2 grade multipurpose grease.
