2 Thank you for choosing to participate in the inaugural Great Rotary Swan Boat Race! We're thrilled to have you involved and it is due to your support that the Rotary Club of Orlando Foundation will be able to fund the purchase of a fully accessible swan boat for use by the public on Lake Eola. This packet contains important information that is essential to your participation and the success of our event. Please review everything carefully. First and foremost, please be sure to have your entire team arrive early enough to register and get into position for their race. We recommend arriving by 7:00AM. Another benefit of arriving early is that you'll have a better chance of getting a t-shirt of your size! There is a mandatory captain's meeting at the boat dock at 7:05AM so at a minimum, your captain must be on site by this time. Each race (heat) will have three swan boats in it and the race will be run in a straight line from a point north of the boat dock, southward toward the amphitheatre. Please see the race diagram later in this packet. While each race is being run, the next race will be loading into another three swan boats and moving to the starting line. Having these things happen simultaneously is essential to the event's success. In order to have that happen, the teams for each of the next two races will need to be staged on shore near the dock. So, for example, while race 01 is happening on the lake, teams for race 02 will be boarding swan boats and moving to the starting line, and at the same time the teams for races 03 and 04 will be waiting on shore. Once the teams from race 01 finish their race and return to the dock, they will unload from the boats, the teams for race 03 will load into the boats, and the teams for race 05 will move into the staging area on shore. This process will continue through-out the day. There will be signs on the site to help clarify and our announcer will be calling out which teams need to report to staging, but please also take a close look at the included race diagram.

3 Lastly, every member of your team will need to sign the release in this packet. If you complete that before arriving your registration process will be faster and all of us will have a better day! Regarding the format of the race, please note that at the start of the race the only requirement is that the boats all be behind the starting line. The starting judges will not require the boats to be aligned. Judge's will make every effort to give your team fair warning that the race is about to start but ultimately it will be your team's responsibility to get the best start possible. Lastly, please be aware that everyone involved is a volunteer and our main goals are to raise money and have fun!

MARCH 10 TUES Last day to register a team to race. 11 WEDS Race bracket/format/schedule will be published online. Visit 12 THURS 5:00PM Team practice. Swan boats will be available for two hours. Your team may use them during this time to practice. Depending on attendance, we may ask that you limit your time in the boat. 14 SAT (RACE DAY!) 7:00AM 7:05AM 7:45AM 7:50AM line 7:55AM line 8:00AM Registration opens. 5 RULES OF THE RACE 1. Have fun. This is a charity benefit. 2. Each boat must have five passengers in every heat. If your team can't find five people, volunteers will be available to fill your boat. 3. Each team must have a captain and the captain must be present in the boat in every heat that the team competes. 4. While the captain must be in the boat for every heat, the other members of the team do not need to be the same in every heat. That is, the non-captain team members may change from heat to heat. 5. The captain will be required to sign a rental agreement with the city of Orlando parks department prior to racing. The captain will be responsible for the swan boat. 6. There are no rules prohibiting changing seats during the race however racers are advised to remain in their seats. Besides, if you stop pedaling, we're pretty confident you won't win the heat. 7. Teams must race the boat to which they are assigned. Boats will be assigned by random. 8. Boats must begin the race behind the line created by the two starting buoys and pass between the buoys at the start of the race (heat). 9. To be judged as having completed the race(heat)boats must pass between the two buoys at the finish line. 10. The judges at the finish line will be solely responsible for determining the winner of each heat and their determination is final. There is no appeal process. 11. One passenger in each boat must hold their team sign in a position which can be read from the shore of Lake Eola. 12. There is no requirement that boats be aligned at the starting line. Judges will determine if all boats are behind the starting line and then announce the start of the race.

7 DURING THE INAUGURAL GREAT ROTARY SWAN BOAT RACE WE HOPE TO HAVE A RACE LEAVE THE STARTING LINE EVERY NINE MINUTES. TO DO THIS WE WILL REQUIRE YOUR TEAM TO DO YOUR BEST TO FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND HAVE FUN! STAY LEFT AND FOLLOW THE SHORE OF THE LAKE AS YOUR TEAM HEADS FROM THE DOCK TO THE STARTING LINE. TEAMS FOR THE NEXT TWO RACES SHOULD BE STAGED ON SHORE IN THIS AREA. LOOK FOR SIGNS! RETURN TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE DOCK REGARDLESS OF WHICH SIDE YOU LOADED. STARTING LINE THE RACE IS A STRAIGHT SPRINT OF 100 YARDS. DO YOUR BEST TO STAY ON A STRAIGHT LINE! AT THE END OF YOUR RACE, TURN RIGHT AND FOLLOW THE SHORE BACK TO THE DOCK. FINISH LINE LAKE EOLA

8 GREAT ROTARY SWAN BOAT RACE WAIVER FORM DO NOT SIGN THIS WAIVER FORM FOR ANY OTHER THAN YOURSELF. BY SUBMITTING THIS FORM, YOU ARE WAIVING IMPORTANT LEGAL RIGHTS. READ THIS FORM CAREFULLY. 1. This waiver covers my participation in The Great Rotary Swan Boat Race. 2. Participating in this above listed activity involves risks, danger and hazards. For example, a boat could capsize or boats could collide in good or bad weather. Approved personal flotation devices (PFD) are available and I am aware of their benefits. I have been advised that they should always be worn during an activity such as this one. Notwithstanding the foregoing, any participant that does not wear a PFD acknowledges that the decision to wear or not wear a PFD is their own. I am aware that by participating in this activity I am risking personal injury, death, or damage to property. I accept and assume those risks. 3. I release the following companies and legal entities including their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, independent contractors and volunteers; (a) Rotary International (b) Rotary Club of Orlando (c) Rotary Club of Orlando Foundation (d) City of Orlando (e) City of Orlando Department of Parks and Recreation (all of whom are referred to as the "releasees" in this waiver form) from any and all liability for any loss, damage, injury or expenses that I may suffer as a result of my participation in the activity listed above, no matter how caused. 4. If someone sues me for negligence or alleged negligence, I agree not to claim contribution or indemnity from any of the releasees. I release the releasees from all liability that could arise from such a contribution or indemnity claim. 5. I agree to hold harmless and indemnify the releasees in respect of any claims, liability or legal expenses that they incur arising directly or indirectly by reason of a claim brought by me against any person or entity for loss, damage injury or expenses suffered by me. 6. I confirm that I have attained the age of 18 years. 7. I allow all releasees to use photos from the event on their website or promotional literature. 8. I recognize and agree that I am not allowed to participate in the above activity unless I sign this waiver, and therefore I am receiving a benefit in exchange for signing this waiver and is binding on me. I agree that this waiver is also binding on my heirs, executors, administrators and legal representatives.
