3 User Guide elearning Maximize Your Online Learning Experience Before you start elearning, ensure you have received a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to register and create your elearning account. Choose a quiet time and space to complete elearning. As much as possible, ensure you use a computer with audio capability you will need the audio to follow the courses effectively. Pay attention to navigation instructions provided at the beginning of each course. This will help you understand what you need to maximize your learning experience. Complete all pages, exercises, questions and the final quiz. You can pause and replay the audio throughout the course using navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. Read the instructions carefully some questions may require more than one answer. If you have to the leave the course, keep note of the page where you ended your session. When returning to the course, click on the Contents button to go to the page where you left off. When you complete a course, the elearning Centre allows you to print a certificate. When registering for the first time, please ensure you enter the name you wish to appear on the certificate. For example, if you record John F. in the surname and Smith in the last name, your certificate will print John F. Smith. Technical Requirements Before you start elearning, ensure that your computer has the necessary requirements to run the course properly. The courses have audio sections. Make sure that your computer speakers are on and that the sound is not set on mute. Adjust the sound level as necessary using the audio controls on your computer. The elearning courses require Adobe Flash Player 7 or later (formerly Macromedia Flash Player). Click to obtain Adobe Flash Player. It is recommended that you: Disable Pop-up Blockers Most contemporary browsers block pop-ups by default. If you cannot access the linked documents, refer to your browser s online help to learn how to temporarily enable pop-ups. Note: Microsoft Vista and Internet Explorer 7+ include added security measures to protect users while browsing the Internet. While this added security is very beneficial, it also disables some website operations. This feature is called Protected Mode. By default, Protected Mode is turned on for all websites. For some users, in order to open any of the links provided in the program, you will need to instruct Internet Explorer to trust the website from which the courses are launched. elearning User Guide Page 2

4 Bookmark in your Favorites for easy access to online courses. Registration PIN Before you access the elearning Centre, you will require a Personal Identification Number (PIN) as well as a Customer Number (also called ISN) to create your elearning account. Access to these online loss prevention courses is limited to ENCON's professional liability insurance policyholders and the network of brokers who work with us. For Insureds a contact from your firm will provide you with the PIN and Customer Number. For Brokers please contact your ENCON A&E underwriter. If you did not receive your PIN, send an to elearningcentre@encon.ca and indicate your name, as well as the name and address of your firm. Creating Your elearning Account You can access elearning from work or home. 1. Go to ENCON s elearning Centre at 2. Click on Enter the elearning Centre. 3. Click on Not yet registered? 4. Enter your PIN and province (refer to section Registration PIN in this document). 5. Click on Submit. elearning User Guide Page 3

5 The Registration screen will be displayed. 1. Complete ALL required fields including mandatory fields identified with an asterisk (*). Note: The First/Last name information will be used to generate a certificate upon completion of the course. Ensure you enter the name as you wish it to appear on your certificate. For example, if you prefer the certificate to indicate Robert (instead of Rob), register your name accordingly. 2. Click on Submit at the bottom of the screen. Once you have successfully registered your account, this screen will be displayed. It provides instructions for an optimal experience when taking the courses. 3. Click on Continue to proceed to the elearning Centre dashboard and launch the specific course. Login for Future Visits Once you have already registered your elearning account and you wish to access elearning to revisit the courses at a later time, enter your username ( address) and password then click on Login. ` elearning User Guide Page 4

6 Launching the Courses Your personal elearning Centre dashboard will be displayed. This screen allows you to launch the courses, view your progress, provide feedback and print your certificate. You will also find information on technical requirements and support. Use the scroll bar on the right of your screen to view all content on the page. 1. Click on the Start icon to launch the course. Forgot Your Password? 1. Go to ENCON s elearning Centre at 2. Click on Forgot your password? 3. Enter your address and click on Submit. Your password will be sent to your address. 7 Navigating Through a Course To navigate through a course, use the navigation keys at the bottom of the screen. CONTENTS displays an overview of the course pages. LIBRARY displays documents/information related to the course content. LINKS displays links related to the course content. GLOSSARY displays glossary of terms specific to the course content. QUIZ brings you directly to the quiz. HELP displays information on technical requirements and how to get help. BACK displays the previous screen. PAUSE/PLAY allows you to pause or play the audio. NEXT displays the next screen. When a page is complete, the Next button will turn green. Scroll Bar - use the scroll bar on the right of your screen to scroll up or down. Other navigation buttons Certain sections of the courses, such as The ENCON Challenge, include their own navigation buttons. Follow special instructions to navigate within those sections. elearning User Guide Page 6

8 Saving Your Progress Results When you complete a course or leave the course to continue at a later date: 1. Click on the X at the top right corner of your screen to go back to your elearning Centre dashboard. 2. Click on Refresh or F5 to update the progress. 3. Click on Logout to register your progress. 4. Click on the X at the top right corner to close the window. NOTE: The elearning Centre keeps track of your progress and indicates how many pages you have completed under Progress. However, the system does not bookmark where you left off. Click on Refresh (F5) TIP: If you need to leave the course, keep note of the page number where you left off. When you return to the course, click Contents and select the page where you left off to resume. elearning User Guide Page 7

9 View or Print Your Certificate 1. Once you have completed the course, press the Refresh or F5 key on your keyboard to update your progress. 2. Click on View/Print. 3. Your certificate will open in a PDF format. 4. Select the PRINT icon to print or the SAVE icon to save the certificate on your computer. 5. Click on X to return to the dashboard screen. 6. Click on Logout to save your progress. Course Evaluation Your feedback is important! Help us improve future elearning courses by completing the online course evaluation. 1. At the elearning Centre dashboard, click on Submit to launch the evaluation form. 2. Complete the form and click Submit at the bottom of the screen. 3.
