1 Introduction For years creative companies were unable to access the technologies to create rich media for online advertisements. This has all changed since the introduction of the free Adrime Components suite, designed exclusively for those creative minds who don t want to be bound by the standard banner sizes, and who want to create richer, more interactive online advertisements with greater impact. The suite integrates easily within your product of choice Macromedia Flash and enables you to design rich media without the hassle of writing your own ActionScript codes. The creatives you provide can be incorporated worldwide within every ad management system, so you don t need to bother about specific website requirements. Our software is divided into two parts. First the Adrime Components for building your ScreenAds and the Adrime Online Previewer for previewing and submitting your ScreenAds for usage. Please feel free to use and distribute this software, also our Adrime Online Previewer. If you have any questions, don t hesitate to contact our support desk. 1.1 About ScreenAds The ScreenAd technology is created by Adrime. ScreenAds are online advertisements that are dynamicly and interactively shown over a web page outside the usual banner positions. They are the most effective form of online advertising. Adrime technology makes it easy to create, present and traffic advanced rich media ScreenAds. These advertisements can be placed in layers across the website, in the form of e.g. break-out banners, mouse chasers, full page ads and sticky-ads. 1.2 Terms of use The Adrime Components are provided you free of charge. Adrime cannot be held responsible for the correctness, completeness or quality of the software and/or information provided through any medium. Liability claims regarding any damages caused by the use of any software and/or information provided, including software and/or information that is incomplete or incorrect, will therefore be disregarded. Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 3 of 18
2 Quick start Please follow the instructions before installing our Adrime Components. You can always find the latest updates and news at System requirements The Adrime Components require the following software prior to installation: Macromedia Flash MX 2004 (or higher, standard or professional edition) Macromedia Extensions Manager (if you don't have the manager installed you can download it free of charge at this location: Installation Before installing the Adrime Components make sure your computer meets the system requirements. 1. Download and save the Adrime Components from our website: 2. Make sure your Flash application is not running 3. Double click the 'AdrimeComponents.mxp' file downloaded in the previous step 4. Follow the instructions Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 4 of 18
2.3 Using the components After installation you will find a new component named 'Adrime Components' in the Component panel within the Flash Authoring Environment. If you can't find this panel use the top-menu Window > Components or use CTRL+F7. To use a component, simply drag it onto the Flash stage. The Adrime Components have a visual representation when used in Authoring Environment, but not when published to the standard SWF file type. To get the best visual representation, make sure you ve got the Live Preview switched on. Enable this by using the top-menu Control > Enable Live Preview. To edit the settings of an Adrime Component, select it on the stage, and go to the Component Inspector panel. To open this panel, select Window > Component Inspector or use ALT+F7. Resize the panel until you see all available options. Components only work if you publish your Flash movie using ActionScript 2.0 Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 5 of 18
3 Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd The following xxx steps will show you how to create a ScreenAd with the Adrime Components. Please make sure that you ve followed the instructions provided above, and downloaded the last documentation from our server ( Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 6 of 18
3.1 Step 1: Start a workspace Start a new workspace by creating a new Flash document (CTRL + N or File > New ). Your new workspace will look like this: Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 7 of 18
Please save immediately (CTRL + S or File > Save) 3.2 Step 2: Edit the size of your movie Flash automatically sizes the movie at 550 * 400 pixels. It might be useful for your movie to use an other size (e.g. when producing a rectangle or mouse chaser). Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 8 of 18
3.3 Step 3: Pre-production In this example we ve created a simple movie. The flower will be in the centre of the browser for a few seconds, then it will become smaller gradually and move to the far right bottom position of the browser. Please note that we ve used different layers. Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 9 of 18
3.4 Step 4: Adding the components - Positioner Because the Adrime Components allow you to change every aspect of a ScreenAd, we will focus on the most used components here: Positioner and Clipping (for detailed information on these techniques see our Component Documentation: Drag the Positioner component on stage, the Component Inspector (see right) will show you the different settings. Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 10 of 18
Change the positioning to center. Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 11 of 18
Because we also would like to move the movie to the far right bottom corner you need to insert a new keyframe in the Components layer. Do this by clicking on the right frame in the timeline, and press F6 to insert a keyframe. Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 12 of 18
Now change the positioning in the Component Inspector to the right bottom corner. Note that the Positioner icon on your stage will change accordingly. Drag it to the right bottom corner of your movie to align it: Also change the transition speed to a speed that suits your needs. This will cause the transition from center to corner to be smoothly. Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 13 of 18
3.5 Step 5: Adding the components Clipping Sometimes the content of the Flash movie fills only a small portion of the actual ScreenAd size, as the following examples show: ScreenAd with unused areas Clipped ScreenAd Still a ScreenAd will hide all burn-through elements that lay beneath it. For visitors it is also harder to select texts through the transparent areas. This is where the Clipper component comes in handy, by clipping (or cropping) the ScreenAd to a certain size. Create a new layer for the Clipping mask. Before dragging the Clipping component onstage create a keyframe in the last frame (F6). This will cause you to have two clippings, one larger for the first stage of the movie, and a smaller for the last part. Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 14 of 18
Drag the Clipping component onstage, and change it s size according to the area you would like to show: Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 15 of 18
Right click the Clipping component and select Free Transform. Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 16 of 18
Now also add the Clipping component and change it s size as well: Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 17 of 18
3.6 Step 6: Post-production As you might have seen there are many more options to use, as described in the Components documentation. Because these are not in the scope of this document we will finish with the last step: post-production. Export your movie (CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + S or File > Export > Export Movie). Please take care that you have selected ActionScript 2 and a flash version above MX 2004: Now that you ve created a movie, you could preview it online with our Online Previewer. Please request a login at Adrime Components: Step by Step: creating a ScreenAd June 2006 edition Page 18 of 18
