1 Machu Picchu, Peru Trek 7/17 7/29/2016 Leader: Bill Blazek Dear Fellow Adventurer: Thank you for your interest in the Adventure Travel outing Machu Picchu, Peru Trek. To apply for a place on the outing, please complete the enclosed trip application and risk statement and return it to the trip leader. Please review the following items carefully as you consider applying for this trip: The group will have a minimum of 10 persons and a maximum of 16 persons including the leader. Accommodation is double occupancy. Once you apply, you will be notified if you are accepted for the outing. Once accepted, submit a $500 deposit to the CMC to reserve a place (see cancellation policy in the application). Please do not send money before it is requested. The remaining balance is payable by April 1, The current in- country estimated trip costs are $2,490 for members. The price includes: 4 nights lodging in Cusco, TBD Transportation from/to airport in Cusco 1 day tour of the Sacred Valley 3 dinners in Cusco 7 day/6 night supported and guided trek on the Salkanty and Inca Trails. Guide provides: o Transportation to/from THs o Group camping gear: tents, 2 people/tent, synthetic mattress, a kitchen tent manned by a professional cooking staff, dining tent, camping chairs, and a camping table. o Complete meals during the trek. Vegetarian meals and other dietary restrictions available o Professional Chefs and Porters. Up to 8Kg/17.5 lbs personal gear per person carried by porters. Food and group gear is NOT included in this 8Kg. Extra cost for extra weight. o Mules on the Salkanty Trail, Porters on the Inca trail to carry group and personal gear, food, etc. o Sanitation tent o o Entrance to Machu Picchu Optional climbs, at extra cost, of! Huayna/Wayna Picchu Summit, 2700 M/8860 and! Machu Picchu Peak, 3060 M/ 10,040. Airfare to/from Denver and Cusco, Peru airport are not included. You will need to arrive in and Cusco, Peru on or before Monday 7/18/2016. Also, expect to spend a few hundred dollars for trip insurance, souvenirs, bar tabs and the meals not included. Non- members will be required to pay an administrative fee equal to 3% of the trip costs. Consider becoming a member to avoid this fee.

2 Permits for Inca Trail and Machu Picchu and deposit deadline To preserve these historic ancient landmarks, Peru has instituted strict regulations of the number of visitors accessing these areas. This requires all visitors, guides, porters, etc. to get permits in advance and due the high popularity of the IT/MP, these permits are often are sold out up to 6 months in advance. Also the Inca Trail permits are issued for specific individuals, not just a space, and are not refundable and not transferable. Therefore, for this trip requires a minimum of 10 people paying the $500 deposit, $250 of which is non- refundable, by Monday January 4, See g c85331/peru:how.to.obtain.an.inca.trail.permit.html Prerequisites A good, cooperative attitude, tolerance, flexibility and excellent physical conditioning are essential. We will be doing B and C Difficult hikes over a variety of terrains and elevations up to 16,000 and approximately 5-10 miles/day for 7 consecutive days and sleeping in tents. As an example, it is expected that applicants have and do comfortably hike Colorado walk- up 14ers or the equivalent in 6-8 hours with no high altitude illness symptoms before applying for the trip. Note the elevation of Cusco, Peru where we will spend the 1 st 3 days is 11,000 +, followed by a day going up to 12,800, followed by crossing one 16,000 pass the next day. Later in the trek is one 13,000 + pass and two 12,000 + passes and the average ground elevation on the entire trip is 11-12,000 for 11 consecutive days. While these are not extremely high altitudes, this trip does require one to be in excellent health and physical condition. There will be little or no opportunity for one to get down to low elevations quickly in case of serious altitude sickness, AMS/HAPE/HACE, etc. Evacuation is at your own expense and NOT included in the trip and is very expensive. Trip leader reserves the right to require participants to demonstrate adequate abilities for this trip. Gear You should plan to bring a day pack that will carry equipment comparable to what you would bring on a typical Colorado day hike during the summer months. You will also need to provide you own personal trekking gear adequate for the climate including sleeping bag, clothes, boots/shoes, trekking poles, etc. In addition to your day pack, you are allowed one piece of luggage up to 17.5 lbs for the trek that will be carried by the porters and mules.. (We strongly recommend carry- on size as you will be carrying it on/off trains, buses, and along sidewalks that may be cobblestone). You will also be allowed 1 additional piece of luggage for the remaining traveling. A recommended gear list will be provided by the leader before the trip.

3 Misc This trek has a custom itinerary that differs from most other Inca Trail Treks in 2 ways. 1 st, it starts from Soraypampa to the North replacing the first day of the traditional Inca Trail route with 3 days to get more time trekking through the high Andes, going over 16,000 Inca Chiriaska Pass, joining the traditional Inca Trail route at the start of the actual Inca Trail at Huayllabamba. 2 nd, instead of finishing up the last part of the Inca Trail and touring Machu Picchu all in one day, our itinerary splits this into 2 days so that we will have a full day in Machu Picchu, arriving at the entrance early to be the 1 st visitors of the day. It will also allow us to view Machu Picchu from a distance on 2 days instead of only 1, in case the view is obscured by inclement weather. Participants will also have the option to climb Huayna/Wayna Picchu Summit, 2700 M/8860 and Machu Picchu Peak, 3060 M/ 10,040 on the day we are in Machu Picchu at an additional fee. Before applying, you may want to check with your significant other, employer, etc. to make sure you have the available time to do a 2 week trip overseas. There is no guarantee of someone being on the wait list to take your place if you have to cancel. You will need a valid passport, but no visa is required to enter Peru. Attendance at the pre- trip planning meeting is mandatory, as there will be much to discuss. Location will be the CMC office in Golden, and you will receive ample notice of the date and time. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, we can set up a virtual meeting link for you. Topics will include suggested equipment, packing, training, cultural notes, and security precautions.
