4 -Biography- I was born in S.California and immigrated as a child to Quesnel BC with my family in My father drown when I was 11 leaving my mother alone to raise myself and three sisters in a new Canadian setting. From a child, my imagination kept me busy and amused. As an adult, marriage, four children and my fathers ancestral religion controlled my activities and prevented much self-expression. A taste of freedom and a visual feast in my late thirties opened my senses during a trip to Britain in I began watercolour painting and soon after, left the religion. I am mainly self-taught from books and diving in, and have taken a number of amazing workshops and been mentored by some great artists. I have been juried into the Provincial BC Festival of the Arts on numerous occasions: 1996, 1998, 1999, and in 2000 was asked to show solo at the Festival. I have also been invited into numerous juried and curated shows, including Artropolis held in Vancouver in I have exhibited and with other artists including Guy Hildebrand at Comox Valley Art Gallery in 2002, Marie Nagel and Sonia Cornwall in 2005 at Grand Forks Public Gallery, George Broderick and Herbert Berman in Portland Oregon in 2004 and 2006, and with Davida Kidd, Lisa Hebden and Liz Carter at Prince George Two Rivers Gallery in The latter exhibit being published in a catalog called Debutantes. In 2000, I received a $5000 Vancouver Art Development Award (Vancouver Foundation) to try oil paints. The award allowed me to try different surfaces, mediums and to study the psychological use of colour in art. I moved from watercolour and oilbars to oil painting with brushes. Along with my painting practice, I enjoy teaching art to children and beginner adults. I have also created two main stage backdrops for BC Music Festivals,
5 Robson Valley Music Festival and the ArtsWells Festival of all things Art. I ve also done artwork for posters and CD covers, and other creative endeavors.
