4 Schools Within SouthWood The Reservation Agreement between The St. Joe Company and Florida State University Developmental Research Charter School Does the student reservation agreement between The St. Joe Company and Florida State University Developmental Research Charter School (FSUS) guarantee children of SouthWood property owners a seat at FSUS? Neither SouthWood nor FSUS can guarantee your child a seat at FSUS. The reservation agreement states that the SouthWood community has a specified number of allocated seats at FSUS for kindergarten through twelfth grade. As a result, only a limited number of seats are provided to children of SouthWood property owners as outlined in the reservation agreement. Florida State University School (K to 12th Grades) Developmental Research Charter School Professional Development School (Also known as Florida High) One of the most sought-after schools in the region, the Florida State University Developmental Research School (FSUS) consistently has received the coveted A rating awarded by the Florida Department of Education. Admission to FSUS is subject to a number of factors, including enrollment availability and eligibility requirements. FSUS distinction from other schools is its mission to not only provide all students with a superior education, but to produce a setting where Florida State University faculty and graduate students can design, demonstrate and analyze the effectiveness of new instructional materials and strategies under controlled conditions. These techniques may then be evaluated and adapted for other public schools throughout Florida. FSUS is a Professional Development School with Florida State University. K-5 Program The K-5 program implements a variety of innovative educational techniques in delivering a standards-based curriculum. Middle School Program The middle school program (grades 6-8) combines the elements of interdisciplinary planning and teaching as well as curriculum and instructional strategies, which are rich and varied. High School Program At the high school level (grades 9-12), the curriculum focuses on rigorous academic courses that will prepare students for postsecondary education School House Road, Tallahassee, FL (850) School Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 2:55 p.m. What are the eligibility requirements for a child to attend FSUS using one of SouthWood s seats? 1) To be eligible to apply for one of the SouthWood seats, a parent must own property in SouthWood and be a member in good standing of the SouthWood Residential Community Association, Inc. Parents renting property do not qualify. If, at anytime, the parent no longer owns property in SouthWood, the student is ineligible to attend FSUS using a SouthWood seat. Only SouthWood property owners and members of the SouthWood Residential Community Association, Inc., in good standing are eligible to register their children at FSUS using a SouthWood seat. However, all SouthWood residents may apply directly with FSUS. For more information call the FSUS Admissions Office at ) If a parent does not own property in SouthWood, a parent must be under contract to purchase a custom single family home site from The St. Joe Company in SouthWood with an anticipated closing date prior to the end of the current school year. If a contract to purchase property in SouthWood is terminated, the student is ineligible to attend FSUS using a SouthWood seat. Is there a waiting list for potential SouthWood students? Yes. Regardless of your child s current age, SouthWood property owners should contact The St. Joe Company at and provide the name, age and grade level, if applicable, of their children wishing to attend FSUS. If the SouthWood seats are filled for a particular grade level, potential SouthWood students for that grade level will be placed on the waiting list. What is the application process to attend FSUS using a SouthWood seat? Documentation to substantiate ownership of a property in the SouthWood community, such as the recorded warranty deed, is required. Once documentation has been verified by The St. Joe Company, the child will be added to the SouthWood reservation list. Please contact The St. Joe Company at for additional information. FSUS requires all students to complete a separate application for admission. Will eligibility be verified? Yes. Each year, and throughout the school year, St. Joe will verify that the students attending FSUS using SouthWood seats are eligible to continue to attend FSUS as a SouthWood student.
