1 FACTS Mission Statement: s (VCCHS) mission is to serve and empower students with special needs for class and for life by utilizing the absolute best educational research and practices. VCCHS is a Christocentric school that revolves around a shared love of learning and is permeated by the teachings of Jesus Christ. With an experienced creative faculty, innovative curriculum and very small classes, begins a new Roman Catholic educational tradition. VCCHS students will find a friendly, supportive atmosphere that encourages and fosters independence, creativity, imagination, and academic excellence. 1

Our Transitions Program, an interdepartmental/curriculum integrated program, 9th-12th grade which addresses the issues and challenges of acquiring success in high school and beyond. (See Special Programs later in this document.) Highly individualized educational program that substantially exceeds Michigan Department of Education requirements and standards. Exemplary VCCHS faculty and staff who know, understand, and care about every student. A curriculum designed with differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. Encourage each student to write, revise and implement their own IEP (Individualized Educational Program) with guidance from our Guidance/Academic Department and faculty. VCCHS Campus-Within-a-Campus Program (See Special Programs later in this document.) CERDP (Continuous Evaluation, Research, Development Program) The VCCHS Friends Program, which pairs a student with a student mentor at VCCHS or one of the area Catholic high schools in a program of meaningful friendship and education. Assistance in helping our students locate and explore the right college or university for them. 2

5 Guidance/Academic Advising Individual and group counseling regarding academic, emotional and developmental needs. Student IEP s and goal planning throughout the school year Review and discuss the quality of the student s academic work Academic scheduling of classes and long range planning Assist student/parent(s) with collecting assignments when a student is absent from school two or more days Preparation for and interpretation of standardized tests Guide students through the college planning and application process Schedule and coordinate perspective and new student visits to the VCCHS campus Provide current financial assistance and scholarship information Arrange parent/teacher or student/teacher conferences when requested Meet with parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences in October and March Graduation Requirements 24 Credits are required. A minimum of 100 hours of Christian service is required for graduation. Students participate (individually and collectively) in a variety of activities to benefit others. Reconciliation-Confession periods for our entire school are scheduled frequently. In addition, confession is available individually each week. Retreats-All VCCHS students participate in a day long or overnight spiritual retreat once a year. The retreats are designed to help our students strive to become better Christians. VCCHS is committed to faithful adherence to the Holy Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church, fidelity to the Catholic Faith and particular obedience to the Pope. 7

VCCHS Friends Program with VCCHS and other southeast Michigan Catholic high school students VCCHS/Campus-Within-a-Campus Program: CWCP provides our students a supervised opportunity to explore areas of interest on area university campuses as well as Ann Arbor community resources and venues. CWCP will also host visiting scholars and professionals on our campus to enrich and expand our learning experience. Ann Arbor is unparalleled in educational, research, learning and support resources. CWCP will take full advantage of these for our students.
