1 WCSC GRAPEVINE October Newsletter 2013 Hello WCSC, Our first official luncheon sent many happy Polish Pottery winners home with their hands full. Congratulations to all our lucky winners. Everyone else should keep October open for the next shopping trip to Poland (sign up and payments due on October 9th). The WCSC Board hopes that you all enjoyed yourselves and that you are excited to join us at lunch October 16 th. Welcome to all our new WCSC members. It was a pleasure to meet those of you who were able to join us for the New Member Welcome hosted by Ann Campbell. Sharing coffee and kuchen with new friends was a lovely way to spend the morning. We hope to see you at future events and activities. Membership is open all year, so invite a friend to join us. The chilly weather and the turning leaves are confirmation that autumn has arrived. This means it is Oktoberfest time. Whether you make the pilgrimage to Munich for the world s largest fair; face the traffic on A5 to enjoy Stuttgart s Volksfest; or simply grill in your own home; fall in Germany is a wonderful place to be. 2 Got the Polish Pottery bug? WCSC Activities Join us for an overnight bus trip to Boleslawiec, Poland and shop until you drop at the many pottery factories and shops in this quaint town. ONLY 25 SEATS AVALIABLE WCSC Members Only!!! Departing: Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 10:00 pm (load at 9:30 pm) Returning: Thursday, October 24, 2013 around midnight Cost: 80 Euro (cash) for 2 seats, 1 seat for you and 1 seat for your purchases. No exceptions, you must buy two seats and you may not put an extra person in that seat. This also includes a tip for the drivers. RSVP and Payment Due: We will begin accepting reservations with full payment on Wednesday, October 9 at the Hainerberg Food Court, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis and will fill very fast. Unpaid reservations cannot be accepted. After October 9, any unsold seats may be reserved and paid for at the October 16 luncheon. Cancellation Policy: If you are not able to go after purchasing your seats, please do not sell your seats. You must let Lu Yanik know via at wcsc_activities@yahoo.com. In the event of a waiting list, the next person on the list will be eligible for these seats. Tourist passport and SOFA card required for this trip. Oct 9 Grape Picking and Polish Pottery Shopping Reservations and Payment Drop by the Hainerberg Food Court between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm to make your reservation and payment for Polish Pottery Shopping and Grape Picking. Oct 15 - Grape Picking Maximum 20 participants Oct 16 - WCSC Luncheon Oct 17 - Grape Picking Maximum 20 participants Oct 23 - Cooking with Sybille One of our German members chooses a lunch menu, purchases the ingredients, and teaches us how to prepare the meal. The activity is located in Aukamm housing and runs from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. Reservations and a 5.00 Euro deposit are due at the WCSC Luncheon on Oct 16. Space is limited to the first 10 respondents. Fee is based on the cost of the ingredients. Any balance due will be paid to Sybille on the day of the activity. Oct 23/24 - Polish Pottery Shopping Maximum 25 participants Oct 24 - Book Club Meet at the WCSC apartment, 39 Texasstr, at 11:00 to discuss this month's book selection. RSVP not required. 2

3 Oct 30 Wiesbaden Walking Tour with Judy Schönmyer Join us for an informative walking tour of Wiesbaden. We will meet at the Hainerberg Shoppette at 9:30 or in front of the Rathaus at 10:00. An optional lunch will follow the tour. Group cost is 100 Euro. Minimum of 10 participants required. A 5.00 deposit is due at October 16 luncheon. Final payment is due the day of the walk. WCSC MONTHLY LUNCHEON INFORMATION WCSC RESERVATION INFORMATION Club members can reserve their seats via the electronic invitation they will receive at the beginning of each month. Non members can reserve seats for each luncheon by sending an to the reservation chairs at the following: wcscreservations@yahoo.com According to the cancellation policy, "A reservation for a WCSC function must be paid for unless it is canceled within the specified time period... [and] No additional reservation will be accepted for that individual until all previous obligations are paid." We love having a full house but, please remember that reservations for luncheons MUST be reserved by the deadline indicated on the invitation. No exceptions. A standby list will be started once the deadline has past. If there are cancellations we will notify you of the opening. 3
