Algebra 1 Standards: Algebra 1 CCSS- Prep for A.REI.3 Students will learn how to write, solve, and graph inequalities on a number line. Section: HW Side notes: Essential Question: What is a solution to an inequality and how is it graphed on a number line? Essential Question: Any number that makes the inequality true is a. All of the numbers in the solution is called a. Inequality signs: When graphing on a number line Examples: Is the given number a solution to the inequality?
Sections: Examples: Is the given number a solution to the inequality? To graph an inequality, determine if you must use an open or closed circle, place the open or closed circle on the appropriate number, and shade the number line in the direction where all the solutions are. Examples. Graph the inequality
Section: Write the inequality represented by the graph. Write the inequality in words
Section: DOK 2 Suppose your school puts on a theatrical play. Adult tickets are $8 and student tickets are $4. Let x represent the number of adult tickets and y represent the number of of student tickets. Write an inequality that represents ticket sales of at least $4000.
Algebra 1 Standards: Algebra 1 CCSS- A.CED.1, A.REI.3 Students will learn how to solve inequalities using addition and subtraction. Section: HW Side notes: Essential Question: How do I solve Inequalities using addition and subtraction? Essential Question: Inequalities with the same solutions are called. Example: We solve inequalities the we solve equations. However, we must now represent all solutions on a number line. You must still isolate the using the properties of equality. Examples: Solve and graph the inequality on a number line.
Sections:
Section: DOK 2 Define the variable, write an inequality and solve. You want to save $3000 for a vacation. Your plane ticket and hotel will cost $1250. Write and solve an inequality to find how much you can spend on everything else. DOK 2 Your school club fundraiser is selling candy bars to raise money. Each member is encouraged to sell at least 60 candy bars. You sell 14 on Tuesday and 24 on Wednesday. How candy bars do you need to sell to meet your goal?
Algebra 1 Standards: Algebra 1 CCSS- A.CED.1, A.REI.3, N.Q.2 Students will learn how to solve inequalities using multiplication and division. Section: HW Side notes: Essential Question: How do I solve Inequalities using multiplication Essential and division? Question: Remember! To solve inequalities you must. Same as solving equations! Be careful!! When you multiply or divide both sides of an inequality BY a you must flip the inequality sign!!!! Here is why: In math, we only want true statements. Watch what happens!
Sections: Examples. Solve and graph
Section:
Section: DOK 2 The book club charges $3.50 per car at their car wash. Write and solve an inequality to find how many cars they must wash to make at least $168. DOK 2 Suppose you make $8.50 per hour at you part time job. Write and solve and inequality to find how many full hours you must work to make at least $136.
Algebra 1 Standards: Algebra 1 CCSS- A.REI.3, A.CED.1 Students will learn how to solve multi-step inequalities using the properties of equality. Section: HW Essential Question: How do I solve multi-step inequalities? Essential Question: Side notes: Remember!! You solve inequalities the you solve equations! the variable! Notice... Now you have variables on sides of the inequality. To solve inequalities: 1) simplify both sides of the inequality, if possible (distribute, combine like terms, etc) 2) Isolate the variable by using inverse operations Examples. Solve each inequality.
Sections:
Section: DOK 2 Define the variable, write and inequality, and solve. On a trip to the Grand Canyon, you and you friends want to travel at least 720 miles in 12 hours. What must their average speed be? (use distance= rate time)
Algebra 1 Standards: Algebra 1 CCSS- A.REI.3, A.CED.1 Students will learn what a compound inequality is, how to solve them, and how to graph them. Section: HW Essential Question: What is a compound inequality? How do I solve Essential and graph Question: them? Two inequalities that are joined by the word or the word form a inequality. Side notes: Now graph x > 2 and x < 7 on the same number line. Do these two graphs intersect/overlap? Because these two graphs intersect/overlap, we can join each inequality by the conjunction AND. Just like "and" joins two compound sentences in language arts. You can write the inequality x > 2 AND x < 7 as Note: An inequality with an AND statement is true if both inequalities are true. This means the solution must be a solution to both inequalities.. You can read this inequality as " x is greater than 2 and x is less than 7". Another way to read it is " "
Sections: Examples. Solve each inequality and graph on a number line.
Section: Write a compound inequality that represents each situation. Then graph. 1) All real numbers that are between -4 and 6 2) All real numbers that are at least 4 and at most 9 Solve the compound inequality. Then graph on a number line. Note: An inequality with an OR statement is true if one or both inequalities are true. This means the solution must satisfy one or both inequalities.
Section: Write the inequality the graph could represent.
Section: DOK 2 When you exercise, your pulse rate rises. Recommended pulse rates vary with age and physical condition. For vigorous exercise, such as running, the inequality 0.7(220 - a) < R < 0.85(220 - a) gives a target range for pulse rate R (in beats per minute), based on age a. a) What is the target range for pulse rate for a person 20 years old? b) Your cousin's target pulse rate is in the range of 133 and per minute. How old is your cousin?
