43 Student Service Learning Projects MWES was awarded Lowe s Tools for Education grant. Parents volunteered along with associates from MWES local Lowe s store to create a butterfly garden and outdoor seating area for students to read, perform and study called the Merlin Garden. Kindergarten students did a unit on the life cycle of a butterfly and released their results into the new Merlin Garden.

44 Student Community Service 5 th grade students worked with kindergarten to sew a blanket for kids with cancer!

45 Student Community Service National Honor Society helps around campus.

46 Student Community Service Student Recycling Students meet every other week to recycle the paper in each and every classroom and office!

47 Student Community Service Third Grade reads to Peek-A- Boo Day Care s students.

48 Student Community Service School Wide Community Service: Pasta for Pennies Pop Tops for Ronald McDonald House 5 th grade tutoring of younger students.

52 School Advisory Council Development Training SAC members meet monthly to discuss school needs and concerns

53 The Community Involvement One New Idea for Implementation SAC met to discuss increasing Parental Involvement for the school year. Members were able to offer input on meeting dates and recommend events for the school year. Discussion included what night would offer the best turnout for parents to participate in school wide events. Also, SAC members were able to offer suggestions on the Carnival, PTA Dance, Pancake breakfast, Math/Science Night, Literacy Night, etc.

54 School Advisory Council Needs Assessment Data SAC used survey monkey on our school website to ask parents and students how we could improve what we do.

55 School Staff and SAC Members Trained on Collaborative Partnering and Shared Decision-making Staff and SAC Members work collaboratively to develop effective decision making skills.
