2 s Media Advisory List Activity/Event Contact Activity/Event Information Location Time Delandrus Seales ext330 Snipes Academy of Arts and Design Mock Town Hall Meeting with Mayor Bill Saffo- Third grade students will experience what it's like to be in their city leader's shoes as they present proposals for community/school programs in a Mock Town Hall meeting. Students will present persuasive speeches to their peers and city leaders for review after learning about their communities and NC government within their third grade social studies classrooms as well as their weekly instruction in the Snipes Media Center. Mayor Saffo and former City Attorney will preside over the meeting. Delandrus Seales, Media Specialist at Snipes, has worked with students during their Media enhancement time to promote positive experiences with community leaders. They've studied city, county, and state government over the past 4 weeks. They used their knowledge to select a topic for their persuasive speeches. Each student identified a problem or issue they've witnessed in their school or community and they have written a proposal on how to fix Auditorium the issue. During the week of the 100th day of school, students will bring pennies and change to fill jars in their classrooms. On the 100th day of school, students and staff will come dressed as their best 100 year old self Middle Sound Rd 8:00a.m. - 2:00p.m. 2/4/2016 Dave Pena (English) Naomi Mendez (Spanish) Williston Middle Bi-lingual Family Event- Williston is hosting an event for ESL and non-english speaking families. The event will provide an opportunity for these families to have Parent/Teacher Conferences and also enjoy a Community Resource Fair on site. Translators will be available. Williston will provide food and free child care for the event. Families will have the opportunity to meet and network with agencies and community groups that provide many valuable resources to our students and their families. administration, teachers, and support staff will also be on site to offer assistance and speak about school policies and other important topics concerning their student. Williston 401 South 10th St 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. 2/9/ ext 502 Elementary Barnes and Noble Skit Night- Students will be performing a variety of shows including skits, poetry, and book reviews at Barnes and Noble in Mayfaire. Participating schools are Howe Pre-K; Eaton, Holly Tree, Mary C. Williams, Snipes, Sunset Park, Winter Park, Wrightsboro and Wirghtsville Beach elementary schools; Holly Shelter, Roland-Grise and Williston middle schools; Ashley, Hoggard, Laney and New Hanover high schools.
