2 Information about transport arrangements This transport guide aims to identify the range of transport services available across Warwickshire, South Leicestershire & South Staffordshire to help students plan their travel routes to College. North Warwickshire & Hinckley College is situated across two counties and is extremely well served by a range of buses and trains which make travelling to our campuses simple and easy, wherever you live. This guide will help you to identify your local bus and train routes to make accessing your college programme straightforward and trouble free. North Warwickshire & Hinckley College aims to ensure learning opportunities are available and accessible to all of our students wherever you live and we hope you find this guide useful, informative and helpful when planning your journey to College. If you need any further information or help please contact our Customer Service Team at any College campus, who will be happy to help. Paying for your travel Payment for all transport is required in advance of making your journey either by purchasing a daily ticket or by using the many discounted travel schemes provided by travel companies. Local travel companies have a range of different schemes, for example Stagecoach and Arriva operate various ticket schemes. Stagecoach offers a range of College tickets, including some for the number of days per week you are timetabled to attend College. A College bus pass subsidy is available to students who need to travel between Hinckley, Harrowbrook and Nuneaton using public transport. The subsidy can be claimed retrospectively after an eligible ticket has been purchased. Please see page 5 for further information. 2 July 2015
3 Stagecoach Midlands Student Tickets Nuneaton Megarider Area College Tickets These tickets cover the whole of Nuneaton. They also cover the journey between Earl Shilton/Barwell and Hinckley Bus Station Prices as follows for 2015/16: Term 5 days per week 4 days per week 3 days per week 2 days per week Term 1 Autumn Term 2 Spring Term 3 Summer Nuneaton Megarider Plus Area College Tickets These tickets cover the whole of Hinckley, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Atherstone, Bulkington, Exhall, Mancetter, Gun Hill, Old Arley, Earl Shilton and Barwell. Service 48 will support travel between Nuneaton, Harrowbrook and Hinckley campuses. Service 10 will support travel between Grove Farm, Stockingford, Nuneaton campus, Coventry Road, Hinckley for Hinckley campus and Harrowbrook campus Prices as follows for 2015/16: Term 5 days per week 4 days per week 3 days per week 2 days per week Term 1 Autumn Term 2 Spring Term 3 Summer Arriva Midlands Student Saver Ticket The Midlands Student Saver ticket can be used by students studying full time at College giving unlimited travel in the designated area, including evenings and weekends. Coverage includes Tamworth, Atherstone, Hinckley and Nuneaton. Tickets can be purchased in advance for 175 per term or 485 for the whole of the 2015/16 academic year. A 10 discount will apply to tickets purchased before 31 st August Please note that all prices and service information was correct at time of going to print. You should therefore check with your local operator prior to travelling as prices are subject to change. 3 July 2015
4 Buying your tickets Passes for Stage Coach can be purchased directly from Nuneaton Travel Shop in the Bus Station, online or from Nuneaton Campus ( ) Friday 4 th September, ( ) Thursday 10 th September and ( ) Wednesday, 16 th September; Please remember to bring a passport sized photograph with you if you wish to purchase a Stagecoach pass. Arriva passes can be purchased on line or by Arriva Midlands Travel Shops. Bus passes from Warwickshire County Council and Leicestershire County Council can only be purchased direct from the relevant County Council by completing an application form. The price of a pass from Warwickshire County Council for 2015/16 is 660 for the academic year ( 330 if you are from a household which is in receipt of an eligible means tested benefit) or you have a Statement of Special Educational Needs (or an Educational Health Care Plan). Payments can be made in instalments or by standing order. For further details please visit: 19 The price for a pass from Leicestershire County Council for 2015/16 is 546 and you can opt to pay this fee in one lump sum or in monthly instalments (up to a maximum of eight). There are exemptions to this fee for families who receive eligible means tested benefits. For further details please visit: ces/school_college_transport.htm Year Old Railcard If you would prefer to travel to college by train then it may be worth purchasing a year old railcard. Costing just 30 for one year or 70 for three years, the year old railcard saves you 1/3 off rail fares. You can also apply for a railcard if you are aged 26 or over; in full time study for over 15 hours a week and at least 20 weeks a year. For more information visit: 25railcard.co.uk. 4 July 2015
5 Additional Information about transport Car Parking The College has a large student car park at our Nuneaton campus. Disabled parking spaces are available for students that hold a blue badge. A car parking charge will be introduced during 2015/16. Hinckley and Harrowbrook campus car parking There is no car parking available for students at our Hinckley campus other than a limited number of disabled parking spaces (for blue badge holders). There are however a number of public pay and display car parks in close proximity to the Hinckley campus. There is limited parking for students at our Harrowbrook campus. Cycle Shelters The College has provided cycle shelters for students use at the North Warwickshire, Hinckley and Harrowbrook campus. Mopeds & Motorcycles The College has limited parking spaces available for moped and motorcycle users at both the North Warwickshire College, Hinckley and Harrowbrook Campuses. 5 July 2015
6 Financial Support Bus Pass Subsidy If your journey to the College using public transport necessitates travel between Nuneaton, Harrowbrook or Hinckley Campuses you may be eligible for the following subsidy: If you are timetabled to attend College 1 day per week 25 per term If you are timetabled to attend College 2,3 or 4 days per week 50% of the cost of the cheapest appropriate pass up to a maximum of 75 per term If you are timetabled to attend College 5 days per week 50% of the cheapest available pass up to a maximum of 75 per term If you wish to apply for the subsidy please complete a Bus Pass Subsidy Form which is available from Customer Services on any College campus or from the College website Please note you will not be eligible for the subsidy if your journey does not need to include the route between Nuneaton, Harrowbrook and Hinckley campuses. Bursary and Discretionary Funds You may be eligible for help with travel and parking through the College Bursary and Discretionary Funds.
