Use doubling or halving (see unit 2-3). Multiply or divide whole numbers by 10, 100 or Find pairs of numbers with a sum of 100; multiples of 50 with a sum of 1000; decimals with a sum of 0.1, 1 or 10. Count on/back in steps of 25, 0.2, 0.25, 0.5 Recall squares to 12 x 12. Double decimals e.g. 3.8 x 2, 0.76 x 2. Multiply or divide whole number by 10,000 or Multiply mentally any two-digit number to 50 by a one-digit number. Know some fractions as percentages/decimals. Find simple percentages. Find a difference by counting on Place value, ordering, rounding. Read, write, order and compare numbers to and determine the value of each digit Multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 giving answers up to 3 decimal places Round any whole number to the required degree of accuracy Round decimals to nearest whole number or 1 decimal place Mental calculation strategies (+ - x ) Written methods Understand and use relationships between the four operations, and the principles of the arithmetic laws. Use related facts and doubling or halving: to multiply by 25, x 100 then 4. Revise formal methods for + - ( including decimals) x ( including long multiplication, whole numbers) and ( short division, whole numbers) Use all four operations to solve problems in real life. Choose, use appropriate operation and calculation method. Check by estimating. Use inverse operation. Fractions, decimals and percentages Change an improper fraction to a mixed number and vice versa. Recognise relationship between fractions. Find equivalent fractions, simplify fractions and compare and order fractions with different denominators Add/subtract fractions with different denominators and mixed numbers Multiply simple pairs of proper fractions Divide proper fractions by a whole number Find fractions of quantities Use decimal notation for tenths, hundredths and thousandths. Know what each digit represents. Give a decimal lying between two others, e.g. 3.4 and 3.5. Order mixed sets of numbers with up to 3 decimal places Find percentages of amounts and use percentages for comparison Know equivalent fractions, decimals, percentages. Order fractions, decimals and percentages in order of size. Handling data Find the mean of a set of data Solve simple problems using the mean

2 Algebra 1 Introduce concept of letters as unknown variables Simplify algebraic expressions and group like terms Shape and space Reasoning about shapes Read and plot coordinates in all 4 quadrants. Draw and translate simple shapes on the coordinate plane Reflect shapes in the axes (rotations? Not sure) Area and perimeter Revise area and perimeter of rectangles( using formula) and simple compound shapes Use square units for area Recognise that shapes with the same area can have different perimeters and vice versa Calculate areas of parallelograms and triangles Multiplying by decimals Multiplication of a whole number by a single digit decimal eg 37x0.6 or 12x0.04 Handling Data Revise interpretation of frequency tables, bar charts ( with discrete and grouped discrete data) and line graphs Algebra 2 Use algebraic formulae from familiar situations Substitute into formula

3 Year 6/Band 6 Spring Term Maths Curriculum Progression and Assessment Criteria EVERY DAY: Practise and develop oral and mental skills (e.g. counting, mental strategies, rapid recall of +, -, x and facts) Read and write whole numbers. Order a set of positive and negative numbers, fractions; mixed decimals. Recall squares to 12 x 12. Round whole numbers to 10, 100, 1000: Give pairs of factors for whole numbers to Find halves of decimals ending in an even digit e.g , Add/subtract any pair of two digit numbers including crossing 100: derive Multiply or divide whole number by 10,000 or sums and difference e.g Find pairs of numbers with sum of 10; multiples of 50 with sum of 1000; Multiply mentally any two-digit number. decimals with a sum of 0.1, 1 or 10. Know some fractions as percentages/decimals. Find simple Count on/back in steps of 25, 0.2, 0.25, 0.5 percentages. Find a difference by counting on Numbers Find the difference between a positive and negative integer, or two negative integers, in the context such as temperature or a number line. Order a set of positive and negative integers. Explore the order of operations using brackets with simple numbers Division Money and real life problems Making decisions, checking results Fractions, decimals and percentages Revise short division Learn formal method of long division Consider different ways to deal with remainders: decimals fractions remainders Round up or down depending on context Divide amounts of money by a 2 digit number Use all 4 operations to solve word problems involving money or real life Check calculations by rounding or inverse operations Determine an appropriate degree of accuracy for answers Consolidate equivalent fractions, decimals, percentages Consolidate simplifying fractions Ratio and proportion Solve simple problems involving ratio and proportion Include : recipes, scale drawings, similar shapes Angles Recognise, estimate and order acute and obtuse angles.
