Skills Builder Course in Science - A one year course - Designed as consolidation for KS3 pupils and as a preparation for GCSE - Ideal preparation for the igcse course - Course facilitates the transition to Key Stage 4 - Supports re-integration to mainstream schooling programmes Course Overview: The main topics covered are outlined below with a significant part of the summer term devoted to teaching and practicing investigative science skills. Course Content: This one year course touches all the key topics in the KS3 National Curriculum, ensuring students have met all the basic scientific concepts they need to have grasped before embarking on KS4 Science courses. Biology Chemistry Physics Cells Acids and alkalis Energy resources Classification The rock cycle Sound and hearing Variation Solutions The Earth and beyond Plants & photosynthesis Environmental chemistry Speeding up Microbes and disease Rocks and weathering Light Environment and Solids, liquids and gases Forces and their effects feeding relationships Fit and healthy Patterns of reactivity Gravitation and space Respiration Compounds and mixtures Magnets and electromagnets Reproduction Simple chemical reactions Electric circuits Inheritance and selection Reactions of metals and metal compounds Energy and electricity Food and digestion Atoms and elements Heating and cooling Plants for food Using chemistry Pressure & moments Assessment procedures The content of the course is regularly assessed by periodic levelled assessment activities. These are reported to mentors and will form the basis of a progress tracking system.

igcse Biology AQA code Full igcse in Biology - 90% of the material is identical to GCSE Biology - A course that when taken in conjunction with the Chemistry and Physics can The course prepares students for the igcse examinations in Biology. Cell activity Organ systems Biological molecules Human biology Defence against disease Plants as organisms Variation & inheritance Adaptation & dependence Evolution Energy & biomass Humans and environment Breathing and circulation Body control

igcse Chemistry AQA code Full igcse in Chemistry - 90% of the material is identical to GCSE Chemistry - A course that when taken in conjunction with the Biology and Physics can The course prepares students for the igcse examinations in Chemistry. Fundamental ideas Bonding &structure Air & water Acids & salts Metals and extraction Reaction rates Oil & fuels Energy changes Electrolysis Organic chemistry Bonds and properties Analysing reactions

igcse Physics AQA code Full igcse in Physics - 90% of the material is identical to GCSE Physics - A course that when taken in conjunction with the Biology and Chemistry can The course prepares students for the igcse examinations in Physics. Energy Electromagnetism Electricity Forces & effects Forces & motion Waves Optics Heating processes Nuclear physics

igcse Double Award Science AQA code Double Award igcse in Science - 90% of the AQA GCSE Additional Science and some Core Science material is covered - Offers the opportunity to take a double award in Science without the need to - A genuine Double Science course leading to two GCSE-equivalent grades - The course is available only in Year 11 for students who have followed the majority of a GCSE science course in year 10 The specification covers 90% of the same material as found in the AQA Additional Science GCSE and some of that in the Core Science specifications. The course content covers the following areas: Biology Chemistry Physics Osmosis & diffusion Bonding &structure Forces & motion Mitosis and Meiosis Atomic structure Energy & momentum Photosynthesis Analysis Velocity & acceleration Respiration Energy & reactions Electricity Enzymes Reaction rates Nuclear physics Genetics Acids & salts Variation & inheritance Electrolysis The course assumes that students already have a grounding in the key principles normally covered in a year 10 Science course and builds on this understanding by covering the more complex topics normally covered in Year 11 or Additional Science GCSE, making the online-mainstream transition easier. This Year 11 course incorporates a thorough review of Year 10 material, preparing students effectively for the terminal examinations. Assessment is entirely by written exam at the end of the course these exams include questions designed to assess the skills and curriculum content formerly covered in controlled assessment or
