1 Pacing Guide Overview 7 th Grade Mathematics Updated 2013/2014 School Year The pacing guide provides a list of suggested materials to be used to teach the curriculum and an approximate time frame for each unit. However, it does not necessarily present materials in a specific order for teaching. Not all resources need to be used and a teacher can replace suggested resources with other activities that they find. It is up to the individual teacher to use the suggested materials to lesson plan and create activities that meet their individual student and classroom needs. The teacher s primary goal should be to prepare their students so that they are able to answer the essential questions for the unit and take the common assessments. Holt Reading Strategies, Reteach, and Know It Notes are suggested as resources to use for notes that students could take home. Copies are provided in the binders to choose from while lesson planning. Teachers should use Holt resources that correspond with those suggested in the pacing guide (or other resources that they find) to create warm-ups and activities as needed. The pacing guide is based on 172 full instructional days. There are some half days, but those have been omitted from the pacing guides and should be used as needed to stay on pace. There are 7 Units in the 7 th Grade curriculum and 41 total lessons days per lesson, supplemental activities, and assessments Time is not built in for Computation Tests. Portions of the curriculum and some assessments are noted as non-calculator to match with non-calculator portions of NWEA and Smarter Balanced Assessments. Those portions of the curriculum should be taught as non-calculator portions for all students; and teachers should reinforce computation skills through warm-ups and other activities throughout the year Please keep track of pacing for each unit and submit changes to activities and pacing so that updates can be made at the end of the school year.
