If you focus and work hard using the wrong strategies and tactics, you will never achieve what want and that s what makes people give up. 3 The Common Belief About Making Money Online is Wrong Too many blogs out there talk about displaying ads or using affiliate programs to make money online, they will tell you that you can make a great profit using them. The problem with that is that those monetization systems are not adapted for beginners. (For those of you who don t know how those monetization systems work: Ads: You display ads on your website and get paid every time someone click on it, or every time 1,000 people see them for example. Affiliate programs: You basically promote a product or service using a special link, that we call affiliate link, and every time someone click on it to buy what you promote, you get a commission out of the sale). Let me show you the common advice that you find when you write make money online on Google: About.com Entrepreneur website: Start your own blog. At Blogger you can set up a blog for free in less than five minutes without knowing a thing about web design, and Blogger even automates setting up Google AdSense so you can make money off your blog by displaying ads and getting paid when people click on the ads. To make even more money from it, set up an affiliate program for books, music, etc., and insert your affiliate links whenever you refer to those items. You'll have to get a lot of traffic to become a six-figure blogger, but pick an interesting topic, write well, tell all your friends, and you're off to a good start. Wikihow: Become an affiliate marketer. This is a great way to make money for promoting someone else s products or services without having to carry any inventory. Affiliate advertisements are usually incorporated into your website/blog/page via linked articles, product-placement videos, or, less and less commonly, banner ads. If necessary, you can also become an affiliate marketer without a website. If you have a lot of traffic, you might want to do cost-per-click advertising, which doesn t earn you much per click but banks on the fact that the sheer number of visitors will build your revenue. If you have very strong content, you might want to do cost-per-acquisition advertising, which makes you a decent commission (either a fixed amount or a commission, depending on what you ve pre-agreed to) every time someone on your site makes a purchase with your affiliate company. 3

4 Lifehack: Google Adsense Google s advertising platform is as simple as signing up, enabling (on Blogger) or pasting a small code on your website, and allowing the advertisements to automatically roll in. The problem with this program is that you don t get any commissions and you don t get to control the ad content. This is useful for some, but powerful users will want something a little more robust. Amazon Associates Amazon has an Associates program for site owners and bloggers. They offer a search tool to find the right products and services from their site and a variety of ad styles to display on your site, including text-based and banner images (digital billboards) like this: Each item purchased through your Amazon links give you a commission. It doesn t take high volume traffic to achieve results, either. I began making money with the program when I only had 1,000 hits per month on my site. They can apply your earnings to your Amazon account balance, issue you a check, or direct deposit into your bank account. If you love Amazon, you ll love their associate s program. If you are beginner who wants to make $1,000 and follow these advices, you will become frustrating very soon It takes a lot of time before making any good money out of those systems. Trust me I ve made the mistake Let me explain. When you start a blog, you are small and don t get much traffic. The first months, you ll get maybe 500, 1,000 visitors on your website. So if you decide to display ads and use affiliate programs, it will take you a lot of time before you make your first $1,000 Usually people who make $1,000 using ads and affiliate, have at least 50,000 visitors on their website and it takes time to get so much traffic Let me take a very realistic example: On average, people make $1 every time someone click on the ads they display or when 1,000 people see it. So if you only have 1,000 people on your website and get 5 people to click on your ad, you will make $6. Nothing fancy here but that s the reality The same goes for affiliate programs. If for example you use the Amazon affiliate program and that you promote on your website several products that cost $50, you will only get a 4% commission every time you get someone to buy. So let s say you have 1,000 visitors on your website and 2 of them buy a product you promote, you will make $4 (2 x ($50 x 0.04). Again that s very far from your goal of making $1,000. 4

5 So when all is said and done: if you are a beginner who get 1,000 visitors and that you follow the common advice using ads and affiliate, you will only make a $10 profit (ads + amazon affiliate). As you can see, displaying ads and using affiliate programs to make money online is too overrated for beginners. So what s the best solution when you just start off and want to make $1,000 as fast as possible? 5

6 Sell your Own Digital Product/ Informational Product Selling your own digital product is the real deal here When starting, it s the fastest way to make a great profit online. But what s a digital product exactly? Udel define digital products as intangible products that can be downloaded over a digital network. It can be software, apps, music or informational product. So if you are a programmer or a musician, you can sell a software, an apps or some music and if you are not, you can still sell what we call informational products. An informational product is a package that teaches something to people and that put together ebooks, Audio files, and/or videos. When people buying it, they can either download the content on their desktop computer or get a user name and password to login to their personal account to get access to the content. Here s an example of informational product: Informational product about fitness: 1 ebook of 100 pages about how to lose weight in 60 days + 8 videos that show the various exercises. What s great about informational product is that it costs nothing to produce (just your brain and a computer with Word) and makes you 100% profit Another great thing is that when you sell your own product, you know who buys from you, which is a valuable information when it comes to making more profit overtime. Let me explain. When people buy your product online, you automatically get their address, which is an opportunity for you keep them in touch and to sell them more of your products overtime. That s impossible if you use affiliate programs because when you promote other people s product you only get the commission and leave the valuable contact information to the seller. So now let s talk numbers to illustrate the power of using informational product to make $1,000. Strategy #1: Let s say that you still get 1,000 visitors on your website but that this time you create an informational product that you sell for $50. Let s also say that you get 4 of your visitors to buy your product (that s pretty simple to do, that s less than 1%of your visitors), you will make a profit of $200 (4 x $50) 6

7 In other word if you create and sell your own informational product on your website, you will make 20 times more profit than with ads and affiliate combined It means that you will only need 5,000 visitors to make $1,000 online instead of 50,000 if you used affiliate and ads. Strategy #2: You can even add to your informational product a back-end product to increase your profit. If you don t know what a back-end product is, it s simple, it s basically what you are offered after buying a product online. It looks like this: Hey you want to buy this dress, we also have this nice bag that would perfectly go with it. Would you like to add it to your basket? Or Hey you want to buy this console; we want offer you this game at 40% off Do you want to add it to your basket? In the case of your online business, a back-end product can refer to another informational product of yours. For example after people buy your $50 product, you can offer them an additional $70 product. If 2 of them buy it, you will increase your profit by $140, which would make you $340 in all. Strategy #3: If you want to make even more profit, you can use an affiliate program, not as someone who promote other people s product but as someone who offer commissions to people who are willing to promote your own product. So let s say you use Clickbank to sell your $50 product and that you offer a 50% commission to people who promote it. If 10 people promote it, and bring you 30 sales you will make an additional $750 profit ( $25 x 30 ). Now if you think that I am making all that up using random numbers let me show you a couple of real example of people who has been making some great money with their own product (the figures you are going to see come from real income report available on each site mentioned): If you take a look at the income of the very famous Pat Flynn of SmartPassiveincome.com, you will see that during his first month of monetization he made $7, with his own product and only $ with Google Adsense (Ads). Pat Flynn had already some great traffic before starting the monetization of his website that s why his income looks so great, but still, it shows the difference between informational products and ads. The same goes for Lindsay and Bjork founders of the great website PinchofYum.com. If you take one of their income reports, at the beginning you will see: Bluehost affiliate program: $195 The Thesis Theme Affiliate Program $54.42 VigLink $68 Google Adsense $

Now I am not saying that you will never make any good money with affiliate programs or ads, I am just saying that it s not the fastest way to make your first $1,000 when you start off.
