2 RECYCLING & THE CITY OF ORLANDO YOUR GUIDE TO RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING HOW DOES THE CITY OF ORLANDO RECYCLE? It s never been easier to! The City of Orlando uses single stream recycling, which means all of your recyclables can be put into one cart. To get your FREE cart, contact the Solid Waste Management Division. THE UNITED STATES GENERATES MORE THAN 250 MILLION TONS OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE EACH YEAR. EVERY DAY WE SEND WASTE TO THE LANDFILL THAT COULD BE REUSED OR RECYCLED. CART Your FREE cart will be teal or burgundy which also termines the day your recycling pickup occurs. TRUCK Recycling carts are picked up by our trucks. Trucks dump recycling loads for sorting at the materials recovery facility. MATERIALS RECOVERY FACILITY WHAT IS RECYCLING? You can tell what zone you belong to by the color of your recycling cart. DON T BREAK THE CYCLE bags become tangled in the rolling screen, which can stop the sorting process and cause recyclables to have to be landfilled. They key to our MRF is keeping these bags, and other film plastic, out of the recycling. quick tip TAKE PACKAGING MATERIAL & STYROFOAM OUT OF BOXES BEFORE BREAKING THEM DOWN, AS THEY ARE TYPICALLY NOT RECYCLABLE. KEEP IT CLEAN RECYCLING RULES Empty food before recycling. Place uneaten food into your garbage or kitchen scraps collector for composting. The following guilines will help us provi you with better service and ensure collection. Keep wet materials and liquids out of the recycling. Empty bottles prior to placing them in the cart. Do not overload the cart or place items on top of the cart. Do not place yard waste in the recycling cart. Carts may be placed curbsi between the hours of 5 p.m. the night before the scheduled day of collection and 6 a.m. on the day of collection. Carts must be removed from the curb by the morning after your collection. Carts left on the curb on the morning after the scheduled pickup may result in a $25.00 roll back fee. Place carts curbsi at least two feet from obstacles such as mailboxes, trees and shrubs, utility poles, meter boxes or parked cars. Do not put hazardous waste such as cleaning materials, oil, paint, pesticis or medical waste in the cart. Do not put garbage into the recycling cart, it will not be collected. Do not place plastic bags into your recycling cart because they tangle the sorting machinery. quick tip DO NOT OVERFILL YOUR CART. PLACE OVERFLOW IN A SEPARATE BOX FOR YOUR NEXT SCHEDULED PICK UP.

Sign up for a FREE composter from the Solid Waste Division and turn that waste into soil instead of sending it to the landfill. Composters can be orred online and are livered to your resince.
