4 Mortise Locks Information Mortise Locks The mortise locks in this catalogue have been categorized into the following different usage areas: For pivot doors For double action doors For sliding doors For narrow frame doors For escape routes For fire resistant doors Lock components and dimensions Door direction Depending on the pivoting direction of a door, a distinction is made between left hand and right hand doors. 6 Mortise Locks Information / Classification Lever follower Many different mortise lock lever followers are available, some of which are special versions. The basic functionality of the versions shown in this catalogue can be described as follows: Clamping follower The mechanism of the clamping follower is one of the simplest and best lever handle fixing methods. The LED indicator makes the operation simple. Independence for the operator Override codes (master codes) can be freely selected by the operator. Protection from unauthorised locker reservations In the event of unauthorized locker reservations, the locker can be re-set for use immediately using the master code. Maximum operational reliability Continuous battery monitoring ensures that wireless PIN code locks with an independent long-term power supply will open lockers at any time. As soon as a low battery is indicated, the locker can still be un-locked, but not locked again. SAFE-O-PIN code lock SAFE-O-PIN is the ideal solution where the use of keys, key tags, cards or other data media for locking lockers needs to be avoided for organizational reasons. SAFE-O-PIN is an intellectual lock that removes the need to use any kind of key or data medium. Functionality Entering a four to ten digit key code (letters or numbers) is sufficient to reliably lock and unlock the locker. SAFE-O-PIN can be used for both variable and fixed locker allocation. The locks can be installed in all of the usual locker models, and can also be retrofitted in existing locker systems: Two coin slots for flexible use Fine function if stipulated time limit exceeded Promax function for protection against concealed theft Combined coin return/coin retain lock The combined coin return/coin retain lock allows one of the inserted coins to be returned as a deposit after the use of the locker and the second coin to be retained as payment. The user can open the locker at any time free of charge during use. The deposit coin is returned whenever the locker is opened. The fine function prevents non-permissible time limit overruns and locker reservations. With locker systems that are frequently used by the same group of people (e.g. in schools or universities), users may block lockers unnecessarily by inserting deposit coins, removing the key and this way reserve their locker beyond the stipulated locker system opening times. This is where the SAFE-O-MAT fine key comes in. This key allows a blocked locker to be opened, the deposited coin to be removed as a fine and the locker re-locked without the deposit. When the user opens the locker again the key is trapped immediately in the usual way, but the deposit is not returned. This makes locker reservations expensive and therefore unattractive. Promax function: Protection against concealed theft and liability risks Conventional systems have an overriding master key that can open all locker locks. A service key is usually also required so that the cylinder can be changed if keys have been lost. However, concealed theft is still possible with any of these keys. Even personnel can be wrongly suspected if the user falsely reports a theft. SAFE-O-MAT solves these problems by using the overriding Promax master key. Personnel can open any locker with this key in the event of an emergency and help the guest immediately. The patented Promax function allows any master key use to be monitored. This has advantages for everybody involved: The user is protected against concealed theft since the locker cannot be secretly opened and locked again without detection. Proof to the contrary can be provided if false accusations are made against personnel. Continuous monitoring reduces the operator s liability risk considerably. 96 Locking and Security Information Master key system Where two or more individual cylinders are not only locked by an individual key, but also by superior keys, a so-called master key system is created. The application of master key systems reaches i.e. from apartment blocks to office complexes. Häfele supplies master key systems in all sizes for any type of cylinder on request, with patented key profiles as well as many special features. Many customers asked for master key systems made in Germany but criticize the long delivery times which you have with made goods from Germany. For this reason Häfele Asia developed their own master key system production. Our master key systems SD and PSM are completely produced in Germany and only the last steps such as key cutting locally. With this service Häfele Asia is able to offer their customers German-quality master key systems within a short delivery time. However, the Häfele service not only comprises the delivery. Häfele has experts for hardware technology, master key systems and for any questions relating to individual cylinders. The service reaches from initial assistance in the planning phase to the creation of appropriate master key plans. 98 Electric Strikes Information Electric strikes allow a secure locking and controlled release of all types of doors. The latchbolt of the door lock is held by the latch of the electric strike. This way, the electric strike keeps the door closed. A pre-requisite is that the latch of the electric strike cannot be retracted from the outside of the door. Therefore, doors with electric strikes have a fixed handle or a knob on the outside. When the electric strike is supplied with power (contact made), the latch of the electric strike, and therefore the door, is released. Contact can be made for a short or long period. It can also be controlled by electronic locking systems and be connected to access control devices or set to open at certain times. Interlocking function Electric strikes with interlocking function remain unlocked until the door is opened by an interlocking pin in the electric strike latch after contact is made for a short period. The door can be opened only one time. When closing the door, the electric strike locks the door again. The interlocking function only works reliably if the interlocking pin is completely pushed in by the latchbolt whilst the door is closed (distance between electric strike and lock normally approx. 3 mm). If the distance between the electric strike and the lock is too great, the interlocking pin is not pushed in completely. In this case, the electric strike operates without interlocking function. Operation with alternating current and direct current Alternating current operation When contact is established to unlock, the typical humming sound can be heard, which is often required as a signal. Doors with counter pressure on the latch of the electric strike (up to 150 N) are also reliably unlocked. Permanent operation is not possible. Direct current operation The process of unlocking is carried out without a humming sound. There must be no counter pressure on the latch of the electric strike. When selecting between operation with alternating current and direct current, the specifications of the electric strike must be considered. Not all electric strikes can be operated with alternating current. The relevant information can be found on the product pages. Correct distance: Interlocking function works Operating current function The door can only be opened whilst contact is made with electric strikes that work with operating current function. Distance too great: Interlocking function does not work AH.98 Mechanical release Electric strikes with mechanical release can be switched off using a small lever in the lock latch. The electric strike function is therefore disabled. This allows free access and unrestricted use of the door, e.g. in public buildings during visiting hours. Electric strikes for access control systems It is recommended to use electric strikes with a regenerative diode, to suppress impulse interferences, in combination with access control systems. This eliminates possible damages to the electronics of the access control system. This applies to the Dialock electronic locking system and other access control systems. Electric strikes with regenerative diode may only be used with direct current function in accordance with the nominal voltage. Observe correct polarity. Permanent operation Electric strikes with permanent operation function (rated for continuous duty 100%) can be unlocked via a special switch or timer using continuous direct current. The electric strike function is therefore disabled and the latch is movable. The door can now be opened as often as required. Door closers may be installed to prevent gusts of wind or draught to push the door open. A momentary contact (e.g. unlocking by door release switch) with alternating current is possible. 99 Electric Strikes Information Feedback Electric strikes with feedback can identify the door position via an electric switching device. The door position can therefore be indicated, e.g. by a control light in the door release switch in the apartment. Installation Two different versions guarantee that the electric strike can be adjusted easily and precisely to the latchbolt of the lock, even under difficult installation conditions: Fafix Version The latch of the electric strike can be adjusted horizontally by up to 4 mm and fixed into grooves after installation of the electric strike. Striking plates Several electric strikes in this catalogue are supplied with striking plates and some are designed for installation in striking plates. The specially cut striking plates that are specified for the respective products must be used. Exchange components If the electric strike is retrofitted, the suitable striking plate can be installed beforehand. An exchange component is screwed into the cut-out of the latch instead of the electric strike. It replaces the function of the latch and is later exchanged by the electric strike. Exchange components are available in the FAFIX version. Exchange components can also be used as adjustable striking plate in combination with a suitable striking plate due to the adjustment facility. It is not necessary to retrofit an electric strike. Accessories for electric strikes Current transmitter, cable transition and electromechanical contact transmit the current from the door frame to the door panel. This current transmission is required for installation of electric strikes in door panels of multiple-door systems. Fix Version The screw holes in the striking plate are elongated. Therefore, the electric strike housing can be adjusted horizontally by up to 4 mm and fixed into grooves after installation. Bolt switching contact A bolt switching contact is a small switch with electromechanical contact which monitors the door lock. It is recessed into the striking plate of the door frame and is released by the deadbolt of the lock. Its application is versatile (i. e. to switch a signal light when the door is locked). A bolt switching contact can be used in combination with electric strikes, e.g. for switching off the power supply for the electric strike when the deadbolt is extended.
