Model and simulate systems. Transversal: 4. THIRD LANGUAGE. Learning a third language, preferably English, to a degree of oral and written fluency that fits in with the future needs of the graduates of each course. 5. EFFECTIVE USE OF INFORMATI0N RESOURCES - Level 3. Planning and using the information necessary for an academic assignment (a final thesis, for example) based on a critical appraisal of the information resources used. Teaching methodology The course is aimed at a PBL (Project Based Learning) methodology. To carry out the work project in the course, during the first 8 weeks of the course it is used a methodology and during the remaining weeks another. In the first 8 weeks of the course are taught two classes per week for 2 hours in the classroom. With explaining methodology, the teacher develops the theoretical material and its application to the project (or projects) in design. In the following weeks the course are taught two classes per week for 2 hours in the laboratory. With collaborating methodology, in small groups where students implement, supervised by professor, the work project (or projects) in progress. The number of small groups of students and the projects developed during the course depends on the number of course students. Learning objectives of the subject 1 / 5
2 The subject "Design and Construction of Electronic Prototypes" (DCPE ) is presented as optional subject. It is aimed to students interested in developing their skills in the design and implementation of electronic applications in the industrial field. The main aims of DCPE are to present to students the techniques typically used for development and construction of electronic circuits and prototypes. Will be introduced a schematic and board design software (EAGLE) and a microcontroller programming software (preferably PICs). It also aims to explore different practical topics on electronic design not sufficiently developed in similar subjects on the studies. The proposed project work has to be multidisciplinary in electronics, with contents of digital electronics, analog electronics and power electronics. The student must obtain a technical-scientific basis in order to (together with analysis) design, synthesize, simulate, physically implement and verify electronic circuits and prototypes. 3 Content 1.- Introduction to Design and Construction of Electronic Prototyping. Learning time: 16h Theory classes: 8h Self study : 8h Presentation of the project to be carried by the class. Introduction to the design of printed circuit boards (PCB) EAGLE: Introduction to schematic capture, board design and autorouter. Presentation of the web addresses of distributors and manufacturers of electronic components. 2.- The Process of Conception and Design of Electronic Prototyping. Practical Example. Learning time: 24h Theory classes: 12h Self study : 12h Detailed description of the prototype to perform. Assigning tasks. Selection and design of electronic circuits and components to perform. Analysis according to manufacturer specifications of the critical components of the prototype. Introduction to Programming PICs. 4.- Design and layout of Photolithographs. Learning time: 8h Theory classes: 4h Self study : 4h Design of the printed circuit board. Standards and design limitations. Presentation of the schematic and its discussion. Presentation of the boards and its discussion. Presentation of the PIC programming and its discussion. 3 / 5
4 3.- Mounting on Protoboard and/or perforated plates. Learning time: 16h Theory classes: 8h Self study : 8h Design and optimization of critical system circuits by using protoboards or perforated plates. Programming PICs. Schematic final proposal to be implemented. 5.- PCBs Construction. Learning time: 8h Theory classes: 0h Laboratory classes: 4h Self study : 4h Performing the different printed circuit boards. Starting method of assembly and testing. 6.- Construction and Verification of Electronic Prototype. Learning time: 78h Theory classes: 0h Laboratory classes: 39h Self study : 39h Guidelines for verification and testing of prototype electronic. Final characterization of the electronic prototype. Testing errors. Study of the critical points of design and its possible improvement. Qualification system The evaluation of the course is weighted as follows: - Written Tests: 10%. - Oral Presentations: 30%. - Self-Study Activities (generic transversal capability): 10%. - Activities and work in Laboratory: 50% 4 / 5
5 Regulations for carrying out activities The evaluation consists on: - Written Tests: written test based on the theory of design and calculation of electronic prototype design. - Oral presentation: oral development in classroom of a theme related to the subject. - Self-Study Activities: evaluation of the Transversal Capability assigned to subject. Consist basically of a contribution to the group of class (by oral presentation) of the information search result for the project. - Activities and work in Laboratory: the evaluation of the different activities taken by students on the laboratory of the course.
