2 WHAT is a Partnership Houston ISD Career Technical Education (CTE) Partners are businesses, universities, community organizations, professional associations, government departments, and other groups who agree to partner with a Houston ISD High School CTE program. A business partnership with Houston ISD CTE is a mutually supportive relationship between a business/organization and the school district in which the Partners commit themselves to specific goals and activities intended to benefit students, schools, and the regional workforce. WHY Partner Strengthen the academic and professional capacity of your future workforce Improve community knowledge about your business Increase marketing and advertising opportunities Increase your presence in the community Network with other businesses Increase company recognition Enhance goodwill HOW to Partner Guest Speakers Bring real-world application to the classroom on a one-time or recurring basis. Curriculum Advice Recommend Industry Certifications and assist in development of project based learning to be applied in the classroom. Workplace Tours Promote your career field and allow students to see your industry up close on ½ day or full day tours. Teacher Externship Help teachers stay current and learn practical applications for what they teach. Host a team of teachers for 3.5 days in your workplace. Job Shadowing Allow students to complete a job shadowing day in your workplace. Your employees possess a wealth of knowledge to share with future employees. Student Internship Allow students to participate in a school year practicum course or summer internship within a related business or industry to pathway of study. Internships may be paid or unpaid. HISD CTE Chamber Collaborate with the district and provide guidance as Houston ISD educators prepare students for careers with a future in the local workforce.

5 HISD Career Readiness Partnership Agreement HISD Agrees to: - Houston ISD Career Readiness department will be available to both the Partner and the School to facilitate and guide all parties through the planning, implementation and evaluation stages of a partnership. - Share events and successes through HISD Career Readiness social media outlets and website. - Collaborate with school and partner to review and evaluate partnership growth. - Provide partnership development and celebration opportunities through HISD Chamber of Commerce, department and school events. The School Agrees to: - Meet at least once per semester with the Partner to plan partnership goals and activities that align with the pathway objectives and invite Houston ISD Career Readiness to activities. - Publicly display your Partners, as appropriate in classrooms and/or on school website. - Follow Houston ISD Career Readiness on social media (Twitter). Share photos, stories of success, and events via Career Readiness website. - Bring pathway students to When I Grow Up EXPO annually. The Partner Agrees to: - Commit to work with a school for the school year and have multiple points of engagement (at least one per semester). - Participate in a planning session to determine how to best work with the school. - Communicate volunteer activities to HISD Career Readiness. - Maintain a partnership coordinator at all times and alert school and HISD Career Readiness of any changes. - Attend at least two Houston ISD Chamber of Commerce meetings per school year. - Follow Houston ISD Career Readiness on social media (Twitter) if possible.
