3 Why change the current policy? Our current dress code is difficult to enforce and contains ambiguity, inconsistencies, and does not promote school spirit.

4 Current Policy 1. Top a. A collared polo shirt must be worn at all Cmes. Either long sleeve or short sleeve is permi%ed. (Some students wear off the shoulder shirts with sleeves) b. A collared dress shirt or blouse may be worn as an opcon to the required polo shirt. Either long sleeve or short sleeve is permi%ed. Shirts or blouses must be fully bu%oned with the excepcon of a neck closure bu%on if the second bu%on is no more than four inches (4 ) lower. (Not feasible to measure 4 )

5 c. Cardigan, V- neck, and crew neck sweaters are opconal in addicon to a collared polo shirt, dress shirt, blouse, or turtleneck. (Therefore students are out of dress code if they don t have a collared shirt or turtleneck underneath a sweater that completely covers the chest area.)

6 d. Sweatshirts, camouflage, and work uniform shirts are not permi%ed. (Camouflage not permi%ed, however, flowered print, designs, and animal prints are okay.) e. Logos or messages that disrupt the educaconal atmosphere of the school are not permi%ed. (Agree!)

8 Current Policy 2. Bo%om a. Permi%ed lower body ayre must be an appropriate length, generally no more than two inches (2 ) above the knee. (Not feasible to measure) No camouflage (Camouflage not permi%ed, however, flowered print, designs, and animal prints are okay) or jean materials (difficult to determine) are permi%ed.

10 Current Policy- Bo%om 5) Shorts and mid- length slacks (not permi%ed between November 1 and March 1 inclusive unless approved by special announcement by the principal). (Why is mid- length a problem? What is mid- length? Why do the dates ma%er? Dresses and skirts are okay anycme.)

11 Current Policy- Bo%om 6) Stretch pants, yoga pants, and leggings are permi%ed if worn with a blouse or shirt that extends to the leg. (Yet track pants and sweatpants are not allowed. Very difficult to police if the shirt extends to the leg.)

13 Current Policy- 3. Footwear a. The encre foot must be covered at all Cmes with pracccal footwear. b. No flip- flops, sandals, or steel- toed footwear are permi%ed. AGREE

14 Current Policy- 4. Other Jackets, coats and other outerwear; headwear of any type, including but not limited to hats, bandannas, headbands, sweatbands, hoods, and kerchiefs; and sunglasses shall not be worn in school. (Hair headbands and scarves should be permi%ed. Buildings are not climate controlled; some kids sweathirts/hoodies are their outerwear.)

15 RecommendaCon The administrators, teachers, and students are in agreement that the dress code needs to be changed to either a very strict code with no opt out permi%ed, or a more relaxed dress code with guidelines.

20 Strict Dress Code Tops: Golf/polo shirt (any solid color), or approved school accvity shirt. Tops of dresses must have sleeves, and cover the encre chest area. Solid color or school accvity sweatshirts are permi%ed.

21 Strict Dress Code Pants: Solid tan, navy blue or black khaki pants (long or short), worn above the hip bone. No blue jeans. Shorts, Skirts, dresses: Must pass the fingercp rule for length.

22 Strict Dress Code Shoes: Shoes must cover the encre foot and have soles. Steel toe boots are not permi%ed. Hats, hoods, bandannas, and sunglasses are not to be worn in the building.

25 Dress Code Guidelines We strongly encourage students to exhibit their school pride by wearing school colors and school apparel ooen. Students are not permi%ed to wear apparel that beli%les another, suggests sexual accvity, or refers to violence, weapons, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, discriminacon, gangs, or any illegal accvity. ObjecConable language or graphics are also not permi%ed on apparel or belongings.

26 Dress Code Guidelines All shirts and dresses must have sleeves and cover the encre torso, and shoulders. Tank tops, midriffs, tube tops, low cut shirts, strapless, spaghey straps, see through shirts, halters, or bare back shirts are not permi%ed. Dresses, skirts, and shorts must reach mid- thigh. We use the fingercp rule, which means when standing straight, fingercps are in line with the hem.

27 Dress Code Guidelines Pants must be worn above the hip bone. No undergarments are to be seen at any Cme. Tights worn as pants are not permi%ed. See through clothing, undergarments worn as outer garments, and sleepwear are not permi%ed. Clothing that are torn or ripped are not permi%ed.

28 Dress Code Guidelines Students are not permi%ed to wear any spiked collars, spiked bracelets, or wallet chains. Shoes must cover the encre foot and have soles. Steel toe boots are not permi%ed. Hats, hoods, bandannas, and sunglasses are not to be worn in the building.

29 Dress Code Guidelines Administra*on will make final decisions about the appropriateness and acceptability of specific items of clothing. Viola*ons of the dress code will result in disciplinary consequences.
