The students helped design a phone application promoting the Narrandera area and we were shown several of the apps at the assembly. This is again a great way for students to engage with the local community in their education and we thank the CAD factory personnel and Ms Ryding for their work with the group. Prue Walsh has recently been selected in the NSW all schools Open Girls Basketball team and is off to Adelaide later in the year to play in the Pacific School Games. Congratulations to Prue and we wish her the best for this competition. This week both the boys and girls teams are playing to reach the final 8 in the state for basketball. We wish both teams the best. in Sydney got to meet David Koch and Samantha Armytage from Sunrise. See photos inside. The Year 10 into 11 evening was supported by over 50 people and Years 10 and 11 students are reminded to have their subject selections in by Friday the 12 th June. Please remember to check with Mr Ireland and Head Teachers about your choices to make sure they will get you into the University courses or TAFE courses you want. This Thursday there is a School Social on from 7pm till 10.00pm and there is no theme for this social. The monthly P&C meeting is on tonight at 7.30pm in the school meeting room. All are welcome. 3 Week 7 LOTE Report This term, the theme of Free Time and Leisure Activities has been the focus of study for LOTE students. Language skills have concentrated on vocabulary and structures needed to talk about personal leisure activities. Students have also researched some of the traditional Indonesian sports, such as Sepak Takraw ( like volleyball), Bull racing in Nias and the martial arts of Pencak Silat. Following the examination period, all classes have participated in creating a piece of Batik, a traditional form of artwork dating back to the seventh century. Using a canting to apply wax on fabric proved quite challenging for many students. A variety of beautiful designs were created, however, reflecting the talent that exists at Narrandera High School. Our next unit of work is on Schooling in Indonesia, which will take us into semester two.

4 HSC BUSINESS STUDIES The HSC Business Studies class visited Sunrice in Leeton in Week 3 as part of their Operations topic, specifically production processes. We were fortunate enough to have excellent guides who took us through the Brown Rice Mill, White Rice Mill, Packing and Despatch as well as the Rice Cake Mill (which everyone agreed was the best because you could actually eat the finished product and YES we did get free rice cakes). Students were able to see the whole production process where rice is delivered to the mill, processed then packaged as a finished product of white or brown rice or rice cakes. The excursion was invaluable as students were able to gain an understanding of the quality management procedures that Sunrice utilise in all parts of the production process as well as their high Workplace Health and Safety standards. A special thank you must go the Miss Lindsay for driving the bus and supplying great tunes!!

5 Music On Wednesday June 3 rd Year 10 and 11 Music students went on a road trip to Wagga Wagga to see Pitch Perfect 2. It was an aca-awesome day where we learnt about mash-ups, covers, acapella singing and Snoop Dogg s Christmas carol singing ability aca-believe it! Sing-alongs were had where we discovered the hidden talents of some students I couldn t aca-believe it. We also recreated the Party in the USA scenes from Pitch Perfect. It was ACA AWESOME!! `

6 ART and Class Year 9 have completed a range of wire sculptures based on the human form. Their work illustrates a range of techniques and the creative ideas of the students. Most students found the task challenging and the manual manipulation of the wire difficult. Overall, however, there was a sense of satisfaction in completing the task. Year 7 have started looking at ancient cultures and the art of Ancient Egypt. As part of their investigation they examined mummies and produced an Egyptian mask. These were created using papier-mâché and details were added to the image with paint. The class will now look at Greek Art and Architecture.

It is a huge trip with so much to learn and lots of interaction with inspiring Aboriginal people on the way. Next year 2016!!!!!! More info David Polhill on For parents: Fusion is a youth and community organisation that has great activites including day trips and hang out days which then connect to other opportunities which in turn lead to youth leadership training. These provide opportunities for teenagers to meet with teenagers from other towns and make an increasing group of friends as well as interact with impressive youth workers. Parental consent forms are in the High School Library Fusion Day Trip - Canberra Saturday 13th June Leave Tourist Info Centre 6am Back 10pm A huge action day to Canberra where there are giant skate parks and Ice Skating and going to the mall.
