2 Overall Summary Client Brief & Requirements Aesthetix AV Solutions LLC has chosen the project, Sega Republic Entertainment Center - Dubai Mall for participating in the Leisure category for the 2010 Inavation Awards. Aesthetix has carried out the design, install, testing and commissioning for this project. The scope of this project included audio visual effects for the rides, information display systems, multi zone public address systems & show control system for the 12 different ones in the theme park. These systems were then interfaced with the lighting controls, fire alarms and other safety systems across the theme park. The systems facilitate information for visitors to the theme park, audio visual effects for the different rides, public announcements, paging & evacuation system & show control using one touch control. Project Details Name of the Project - SEGA Republic Entertainment Center, Dubai Mall, Dubai - UAE Project Start Date - March 2009 Project Completion Date - August 2009 Approximate Value US$ 1.5 million Integrator - Aesthetix AV Solutions LLC Project Contractor - Turner Construction International LLC SEGA Republic is a high-adrenaline indoor theme park for the whole family, located at The Dubai Mall. The Dubai Mall is the world s largest shopping mall and is a part of the Burj Dubai complex, the 20-billion-dollar project developed by Emaar Properties PJSC. SEGA Republic was developed by Emaar Retail in association with Japan-based SEGA Corporation, one of the global leaders in high-tech entertainment. The 76,000 sq ft Sega Republic has five themed zones featuring nine thrilling attractions and more than 150 games, from cutting-edge motion simulators and virtual experiences. Projected as one of the landmarks for Dubai, Emaar & SEGA had insisted on using the most modern technology available for this project. Also critical to the client, was that the system is highly reliable, flexible & easy to operate. Other important challenges for the project were the deadline for completion & using the highest safety standards for project execution. SEGA required a highly complex control system for the audio visual effects for different rides. The audio, video & lighting system had to be synchronized with the riding operation in order to achieve the total experience. The speakers & display systems need to be matched with the theme of each zone. The audio levels had to be maintained in the different zones without overlapping.

3 Entrance Information - Area 1 This system was installed at the entrance and consists of one 183 LED display and two (2) 50 LCD displays. It is used to make announcements about attractions, display information about the rides and transmit promotional advertisements.

4 Entrance Information - Area 2 This system was installed between the elevators on the lower floor and consists of one (1) LED display. It is used to make announcements about attractions, display information about the rides and transmit promotional advertisements.

5 Redemption Zone System was equipped with six (6) EVID 6.2 and two (2) JBL Control 26C ceiling speakers in the redemption counter area. It has one DVD player for background music and one head worn microphone to make announcements. The system also provides the background music for the gaming zone / area.

6 Strom G This area has two (2) 50 displays in the areas where visitors queue with four (4) JBL control 28 speakers for promotion and instruction of games. This area has a 16:9 format screen with a NEC 2000 ANSI lumens projector to display the images from the riding system. Ten (10) JBL control 29 AV speakers are installed to deliver the audio from the riding systems. One head worn microphone was installed to make announcements.

7 Initial D This area has two (2) 50 displays in the areas where visitors queue with four (4) JBL control 28 speakers for promotion and instruction of games. This area has a 16:9 format screen with a NEC 2000 ANSI lumens projector to display the images from the riding system. Ten (10) JBL control 29 AV speakers are installed to deliver the audio from the riding systems. One head worn microphone was installed to make announcements.

8 Sonic Hopper Audio was integrated with the ride system and with eight (8) JBL Control 29AV speakers and three (3) JBL Control 28 speakers. An Alcorn video bin loop card player was used to play the audio system. The audio starts when the ride starts. One head worn microphone was installed to make announcements. Lighting was integrated with the show controller.

9 Sports Zone The system consists of ten (10) 42 display in the area where visitors queue along with eight (8) JBL Control 28 speakers. One head worn microphone was installed to make announcements about games and rides.

10 Cyber Pop The system consists of two (2) rear projection screens and four (4) JBL Control 29 AV speakers. One head worn microphone was installed to make announcements about games and rides.

11 Event Stage The system comprises two (2) 50 displays in the area where visitors queue and four (4) JBL Control 29 AV speakers. One head worn microphone was installed to make announcements about games and rides.

12 Wild Wing Jungle The system consists of three (3) 50 displays in the area where visitors queue. One head worn microphone was installed to make announcements about games and rides.

13 Spin Gear Platform The video system consists of four (4) 50 display in the area where visitors queue and three (3) in the platform area. The audio system consists of twelve (12) JBL control 28 speakers, eight (8) JBL Control 26C ceiling speakers and one (1) JBL control 29. These speakers are mounted with displays and play video sounds. Other speakers play sounds from the machine room and the gear rotation. The system also helps promote the game and educate visitors about the ride. One head worn microphone was installed to make announcements about games and rides.

14 Spin Gear The audio system consists of 42 JBL control 29AV speakers, four (4) EAW subwoofers, one (1) 28 speaker and one (1) Atlas Sound Horn speaker. This was to ensure real effect of spin gear area. The audio is loaded into the video bin loop card and is triggered when it receives a signal from the sensors mounted in the track at various places. The show controller is also triggered and other outputs (such as dry mist, fire effect, fog screen and special lighting effects) are connected to this unit.

15 Entry statement and objectives- key elements, challenges, trouble shooting. 1. Speakers and displays needed to match with the interior theme design. 2. Audio levels needed to the same across all areas. 3. Ambient noise from gaming equipment needed to be adjusted. 4. Audio had to be provided according to ride system operation by receiving the trigger from ride operation equipment. 5. Video and audio transmission had to be managed via CAT5 for sources at longer distances. 6. Lights needed to be controlled according to the theme of the park and riding operation. 7. The fire alarm system has to be interfaced with the control equipment. 8. Projectors had to be controlled according to ride system operation. 9. In the case of music that is playing with the rides, when public announcements are made, the speakers mute. They come back to full volume once the announcement is complete in a gradual manner. 10. CAT 5 Audio processers were used to control paging and evacuation. 11. Local control for audio level had to be provided. Different audio settings were provided according to the themes this was done through a PC installed in equipment racks. 12. The programming for show control equipment was individually set for each area and in accordance with the theme. 13. Audio and video sources needed to be triggered in micro seconds delay after receiving the ride trigger. 14. Special effect sounds were provided according to the ride positions. 15. When the fire alarm is triggered, local ride music is muted and rides enter emergency stop mode. 16. All cables and equipment were marked by labels for future maintenance purposes. 17. Show control equipment was integrated to trigger other equipment to create special effects for the riding system like mist screen, fox fire, automatic door, rotating gears. 18. All equipment was installed with safety ropes. Consideration of the environment - design, technology and usage thereafter 1. All products were designed to work with ride system operation. 2. The products were designed to suit the interior theme design and provide sound effects for the riding and information system. 3. Show control equipment was used to control all the sources, switchers, displays and audio processers through serial control ports. 4. Video bin loop was designed to load and play multiple tracks of audio and video files according to the ride system s requirements. 5. Show control equipment was designed to take inputs from the ride system and control show lights and other special effect equipment. 6. Equipment can be used 24/7. 7. All the displays can connect to the Component video. 8. Some of the equipment was programmed / designed to carry video and audio signals to longer distances by using the CAT 5 transmitter and receiver. 9. Public area announcement area equipment was connected through CAT 5 cable transmitters and receivers and the audio processer control via the base building TCP/IP network system. 10. Information displays were designed to deliver high resolution messages about their offers and information about the different rides in a scheduled manner. 11. All equipment was designed with the safety of visitors in mind.
