4 When you receive your Nexio G8 system, complete the initial system setup steps outlined in this note before racking the system. 1. Startup the System When you first startup the system, Microsoft Windows will begin a final system setup where you can customize system options like the operating system language and time zone. 1. Unpack the system. 2. Set up the system on a work bench. Do not put the system in a rack. 3. Power on the system. 4. The first screen that displays allows you to select the operating system language. Select the preferred language from the list and click Next. 5. On the next screen, enter a name for the computer and click Next. 6. On the next screen, enter your Windows 7 license key. You can find the license key on the Windows label affixed to the side of the system. Click Next. 7. On the next screen, review and accept the Windows 7 license agreement. Click Next. 8. On the next screen, select your time zone from the drop-down list and then set the date and time for the system. Click Next. 9. A Warning dialog tells you to remove all external USB flash drives and hard drives attached to the system. 10. After you confirm all drives are removed, click OK on the Warning dialog. 11. The Disk Management window displays. Do not close this window manually. It will close automatically. 12. After the Disk Management window closes, the Windows desktop appears. Default System Logins The G8 system comes pre-configured with two default system logins: one for administrative tasks and one for CG operation. Administrator Login Use the case-sensitive administrator login to perform administrative tasks on the system. Username: Administrator Password: G-Scribe 2014 Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 5/22/2014 Page 4
5 General Login Use the case-sensitive general login to operate the system software. This account is configured for optimal operations use. Username: GScribe Password: G-Scribe 2. Review System Manager Settings The System Manager software included with G8 systems manages basic product operation, and allows you to configure and monitor your video, audio, and system settings. Review the default settings to ensure they match your broadcast environment. 1. Open System Manager from the desktop shortcut. 2. The System Configuration Changes dialog displays. Click OK to accept the optimization changes. 3. In System Manager, switch to the Genlock tab and select the video standard that matches your broadcast environment from the Video Standard drop-down list. 4. Review other Genlock settings and change as necessary. 5. Switch to the Video tab and select the SDI Output 1 option for your broadcast environment. 6. Finish reviewing the remaining settings in System Manager. 7. Click Apply. Once the configuration settings are applied, close System Manager using the top-right red X button. Note: You can access the complete System Manager guide from the Resources desktop shortcut. 3. Setup Virtual Output Layers with Strata You can use the Strata Configuration utility to setup multiple virtual output layers for G-Scribe and other supported products on the system. 1. Open the Strata Configuration utility Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 5/22/2014 Page 5
6 2. In the Strata Layers section, select the application for the virtual output layers from the drop-down list (for example, select G-Scribe to assign layers to G-Scribe). 3. Click the Add Layer button beside the drop-down list to add the Strata layer to the selected software application. You can continue clicking Add Layer to assign multiple layers to the application. 4. If you assign multiple layers, you can drag the layers up or down in the list to adjust the z-order. The topmost layer displays as the topmost layer on output. 5. To save your changes, select File > Apply Strata Configuration. 6. To close the Strata window, click the red X. 4. Test G8 Output You should test the G8 output to make sure G8 is operating as expected for your broadcast requirements. 1. Connect an output monitor to the G8 system. 2. Double-click the G-Scribe shortcut on the desktop to launch G-Scribe. The product splash screen will display on the output monitor. 3. If you set multiple Strata layers for G-Scribe, multiple program windows will display below the CG workspace in the G-Scribe application. 4. Create a basic CG layout in the workspace using the tools, or select a template from the Template drop-down list above the workspace. 5. Select the layout in the playlist and then take the layout by pressing ENTER on your keyboard number pad. 6. After you confirm G-Scribe is operating as expected for your broadcast requirements, close the G- Scribe application Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 5/22/2014 Page 6
7 5. Create a System Image To ensure the G8 system can be restored to a known working state as quickly as possible, it is recommended that you create a new system image with the current system settings. Create a Restore Point A factory system restore image is available on your system s D:\Recovery folder. This folder is protected from accidental deletion. Do not attempt to change the protection settings of the folder or attempt to delete it. To perform system recovery or custom image creation tasks, use the System Restore flash drive that was shipped in your accessory box with the system. You may wish to create an additional "production" system restore image after you have fully configured/administered your system. 1. Follow these steps to change the system s Hard Disk Drive and Boot Device Priority so that the System Restore flash drive is the first device. a. Unplug all USB devices from the system. a. Attach the System Restore flash drive to one of the USB ports on the system. You may use a different flash drive to store your restore point if you wish. This might be necessary if your restore point is too large to fit on the System Restore flash drive. b. Power on the system. c. As the system boots, during the POST cycle, press F11 to access the BBS (Boot Block Selection) menu. d. Move the cursor down to the USB Disk option and hit Enter. 2. Windows loads, followed by the Windows Preinstallation Environment. This process may take several minutes. 3. The System Recovery screen appears. 4. Click the Advanced Options button. The Advanced Options menu appears. 5. Click the Manual Recovery button to allow manual image creation and recovery. 6. Ghost launches. Use the Ghost application to choose a source and a target for your restore point. Note: Loss of data is possible if you incorrectly specify your target. Be sure of your settings before you continue. 7. Within Ghost, create the image. 8. After the image creation is complete, shut down your system so the power is off. 9. Remove the flash drive which contains your new restore point and store it in a safe place. 10. Reattach any USB devices that you removed before starting this procedure. 11. Power on your system. System Restore 1. Follow these steps to change the system s Hard Disk Drive and Boot Device Priority so that the System Restore flash drive is the first device Imagine Communications.
