Curriculum Manager Installation Instructions The Curriculum Manager (CM) Installation Guide is designed to help guide you through the steps involved for updating your Computer Operating System, installing third party plug-ins and modifying settings in the Curriculum Manager application. Set-up Steps The table below shows the basic computer set-up steps that you need to follow in order to use the CM. The instructions for how to perform each step are explained in this guide. Step Task 1a Power on computer and Login with Administrator Rights 1b Determine what Operating System (OS) you have installed. If you have Windows 7 Army Gold Master, you will need to reformat computer with Generic WIN7 OS and install MS Office 2 Verify that you have an antivirus program installed. You can download a free copy of MacAfee from the JROTC Web Portal. 3 Plug-in the CM hard drive 4 Verify that you have Read/Write permissions to the CM hard drive 5 Verify that you have the Plug-ins installed 6 Verify your CM Patch status 7 Verify Macros and Active X settings in PowerPoint 8 Verify Internet Explorer Settings 9 Run File Type Fix 10 If you have a MOBI, install einstruction Workspace software (follow directions provided by einstruction) 6

Step 1 Pre-Install Instructions Before you begin the installation process, you first need to verify what Operating System (OS) you have installed on your computer and make sure it has been updated. Computers that are issued by Cadet Command will no longer have the Army Gold Master (AGM) image since it prevented many of the resources on the Curriculum Manager from working. However, since there were computers sent to the field that had the AGM installed the brigades now have generic WIN 7 OS disks that can be used to replace the AGM image. Follow the steps below to determine if you have the AGM OS version installed. 1. If you have a Windows 7 machine, click the Windows button > Control Panel > System 2. If you see the Army logo, then please call your brigade for a generic Windows 7 disc and an MS Office disc and reformat your computer following the steps below. Fig. 1 Windows 7 System Information Screen 7

Step 3 About the hard drive The Iomega ego Portable Hard Drive USB 2.0 with Protection Suite is has a sleek steel enclosure and is the perfect companion to your computer. The Drop Guard feature protects the drive when dropped up to 51 inches (40% above the industry average!) so you can be confident your portable hard drive is rugged! The ego is protected by a 1-year limited warranty. Fig. 4 Iomega ego Hard Drive How do I install the hard drive? 1. Connect the mini-usb connector on the cable to the back of the drive. Fig. 5 Connect mini-usb connector to back of drive 2. Connect the USB data connector to the computer's USB port. 11

Fig. 6 Connect USB data connector to computer s USB port 3. Check the drive status light. If the status light is dim or blinking for several minutes, connect the USB supplemental power connector to another USB port on the computer. Fig. 7 Drive status light 4. The drive icon will appear in My Computer or Windows Explorer. If the drive does not appear on your computer, refer to Troubleshooting in the Iomega ego user s manual. 5. The Iomega ego Portable Hard Drive is ready to use. If you encounter problems installing or using the drive, refer to Troubleshooting in the Iomega ego user s manual. Plug-in the CM hard drive and the CPS receiver in the same order for every use. If you plug-in the hard drive in a different USB port, you will need to run File Type Fix from the Startup Menu (see Step 9 for how to run this application). Using the USB Y-cable with the Iomega Portable Hard Drive Why does the USB cable for my Iomega ego Portable Hard Drive have two USB connectors? 12

The Y-cable allows you to use two USB connections to ensure adequate power for your Iomega portable drive. In some cases, USB-powered devices do not receive enough power from a single USB connection. Using the second USB connection ensures that the device receives adequate power to work properly. You may not need to use the additional power-only connection in all cases. If the indicator light on the drive glows steadily after connecting the main USB data line, the single USB connection might be providing sufficient power. If the indicator light is dim or blinking, or if you see a message indicating that your USB device is not receiving sufficient power, you should connect the additional power-only connector. On most Y-cables, the power-only connector is labeled with a sticker showing a lightning bolt. If the Y-cable does not have a label, you can determine which connector is power-only by the cable length. The short, branched USB connection is for power-only. The long USB cable is for both data and power. Fig. 8 USB Y-cable 1. Once you have the drive connected: a. If you have Auto Play enabled on your computer then you will get a prompt to start Curriculum Manager. Fig. 9 Curriculum Manager Auto Play Prompt 13

b. If you do not have Auto Play enabled then you need to double click My Computer. Fig. 10 My Computer 2. Find the JROTC Curriculum Manager Drive, and double click it, or right click on My Computer and choose Explore. Fig. 11 Curriculum Manager Drive 3. Double click CM_start.exe to start Curriculum Manager Startup Menu. 14

Fig. 12 CM_start file Step 4 User Account Control Settings In order for the CM to work, you need to have certain Administrative and User rights. 17 Fig. 16 UAC Alert Settings Apply Read/Write permissions to the CM hard drive Windows Vista/7 Instructions How to Grant Read/Write Permissions in Windows Vista and 7 If users are getting Jet Database errors, this means you do not have write permissions on the USB drive. Even if you are Admins on your computer, Windows Vista and some Windows 7 will auto block you from writing.
