1 OMNIFORM TROUBLESHOOTING Opening an OmniForm with Windows XP SP2 The use of electronic forms allows candidates to utilize increasing technology more efficiently than using only paper documents. PDF documents are widely used, and have been used to type out one s responses and then print the completed form. The trouble is that most people have only the Acrobat Reader; therefore completed PDF documents cannot be saved to a computer or sent back to us as e- mail attachments. So, we use OmniForm for the applicant s and the reference person s convenience. An OmniForm will allow the user to open a form, complete it, and then save the document to their computer. If saved to a computer, one may return at a later time to finish or modify the document, rather than completing it in one sitting. More than this, a completed OmniForm can be attached to an and sent to the intended recipient. Technology comes with a downside. OmniForm has run into various problems as computer technology and Internet security increases. Below is a list of troubles of which many people have experienced. If you are experiencing trouble using our OmniForm, please read through the list below and see which comes closest to your situation. Click the link to jump to that solution. [ Security Settings ] If the EXE file will not download due to a security settings alert. [ Browser Blocking ] If you get a warning message in your browser s yellow information bar. [ HTML Help ] The computer I am using will not allow downloading EXE file extensions. [ Warnings ] I get warnings about an unknown publisher and feel uneasy about running it. [ Minimized ] It could be that the program is running, and it is minimized on your taskbar. [ ActiveX ] Using the HTML version will require an ActiveX control to be installed. XP SP2 = Windows operating system, service pack 2. EXE = An executable version of OmniForm application or program. HTML = Refers to the Web version of the OmniForm. If you have problems downloading or opening an OmniForm, try this: Your screen may say at the top (in the browser's yellow bar) that your document is being blocked. Press the CTRL key while you left-click the link. It should bring up a box where you choose "run" or "save as." It may be minimized in the taskbar. Then follow the instructions for using an OmniForm.

2 The EXE File Won t Download: If you get an error like this one to the right when you click on the OmniForm link, then you will need to change your Internet Explorer security settings. To correct this, open your browser, and on the Internet Explorer menu bar at the top, click Tools then Internet Options. On the Security tab, select the first icon (Internet). Move the slider at the bottom from High to Medium. (If your screen does not look like this, see the next screen shot).

3 If your screen looks like this, highlight Internet content zone, then click the Custom Level button. Make sure the Reset to: box at the bottom is set to Medium rather than High, then click Reset. Click yes to the warning, Are you sure you want to change the security setting for this zone? Don t worry about all those other Internet settings. Click OK on this security setting screen and then try clicking on the OmniForm link again.

4 EXE File Won t Download: Another XP SP2 solution involves your browser preventing you from downloading the.exe file. You may get a warning like this one to the right. Just click OK to continue. Notice the yellow information bar, just under the browser address bar. Right-click on that yellow bar (which may turn blue), and choose the Download File option. The EXE file should now download to your computer, or open from its current location, depending upon which you have chosen. Saving to disk is better so you will choose the location and may observe the download status. Once the OmniForm is running, click OK on the OmniForm welcome screen, and the document will open. If this did not work, try the suggestion at the bottom of page one of this document.

5 Downloading the HTML File: Another XP SP2 solution involves trouble with the EXE extension. Try right-clicking the link and choosing the Save Target As feature, to save the file on your desktop for easy access. Or, you may be able to right-click on the link and use the PDF document feature Copy Link Location (see below). Once copied, you may paste it into your Web browser. If the browser does not allow you to open the exe file, change the exe to html. Once the html document is downloaded to your desktop (a location for easy access), do not click on the file at this time. Rather, open a new Web browser Go to > File > Open

6 Choose "browse" and the location of the desired file. Here, the Look in box says Desktop, then highlight the located file and click "open." Then click OK. The HTML file will open but you may not be able to see the form. You may get a warning like this Notice the yellow bar at the top of the browser, indicating that the file content has been blocked. Right-click on the yellow bar (which should turn blue) and choose, allow blocked content and it should work properly.

7 XP Warnings: If you get an XP warning like this one, just click Run. The button to Cancel will be highlighted. The next screen will be the OmniForm welcome screen, and then click OK to open the form. You may also see a warning like this one. Just click Run even though the Don t Run button is highlighted. Active X Controls Installation: As you open the html version of the OmniForm, your browser may block the content. You may be required to download and install an ActiveX control for your browser. The yellow information bar in your browser may have this warning (ScanSoft, Inc. makes OmniForm): Click the yellow information bar to download and install what is needed to run this OmniForm. You must be connected to the Internet to download the needed ActiveX control. The Program May Be Running Minimized: On some computers, after clicking the on the form link, you may not see it opening; only to find that the form IS already open, minimized in your taskbar.
