5 Most business owners take great pride in the goods they're selling, and an equal amount of pride in the interior of their store, however, it's the outside of the business which usually dictates how a customer will behave...

6 A retail storefront creates that all important first impression. It should be both attractive and welcoming to draw in the customer and it should also represent the shop s brand and products. A storefront can be used for promotions and to welcome a season. A clean exterior is one of the best and most affordable marketing and advertising tools available. Make your storefront unique, clutter free, and attention grabbing and remember you have only seconds to do all of it.

Put out garbage at scheduled times ONLY 4. Sweep sidewalk several times a day 5. Provide an example for other merchants 6. Ensure clear sightlines into their store

15 Your mission is to design and place a sign that draws attention to your business from pedestrian and drive-by traffic. Attractive and easy to read - lets the customer know where the store is and what it sells Comply with local sign codes and ordinances

18 Keep those windows sparkling clean Properly light the entrance and displays Change your exhibits often so the materials don t yellow Avoid cluttering window displays and concentrate on a few items you re really trying to highlight Change your storefront display with the seasons or for special events

22 Can you leave your doors open to walking traffic? Open doors are much more inviting, especially if great music or aromas are floating outside.

24 Lighting focused on the window display, signs and entrance is essential What does a burnt out letter or two, say about your store? Make your store a shining star in a sea of darkness at night, also good for security Nighttime visibility attention means sales too

26 People are more likely to stop and look at a window display and enter a store that is kind enough to protect them from the elements. Good space for outside display, safe under the awning from rain An attractive awning can make a storefront stand out from the rest.

33 Start in the parking lot-clear of debris and in good repair Window replacement and window framing visible from the street which is appropriately scaled to the building Paint-the door, window trim or entire front New siding- maintain historical integrity Building facades should relate to their surroundings and provide a sense of cohesiveness in the area without strict uniformity. Colors of exterior materials, signs, window frames, canopies and other building features should be coordinated. The eye goes to color. If your storefront is tiny or in an obscure location, enlarge your visual presence by painting the exterior and/or roof in an eye-catching color combo Choice of colors should be determined by the nature of the building and the architecture.
