For more than 100 years, Florida Hospital has been profoundly committed to those who seek our care. We ve become known the world over for the expert, compassionate, individualized attention given to the millions who have already passed through our doors, and the million plus patients who visit us each year. As we look to the future of health care, we continue to grow and evolve. We believe that a hospital should be as focused on treating injury and illness as it is to helping people avoid the need for treatment completely. With initiatives like Healthy100, we are cultivating community-wide movements toward adopting healthier lifestyles for greater longevity. And the development of Health Village, our 172-acre mixed use planned community, will provide an immersive environment rich in resources that encourage whole-person health. About Florida Hospital s Nicholson Center Florida Hospital s Nicholson Center is committed to utilizing advances in the sciences and in technology as building blocks in breakthrough advances and improvements in the delivery of health care. The researchers and practitioners at the Center, in their brand new 54,000 square-foot facility, use open collaborations and sponsorships from various agencies (including the Department of Defense) to help inform and explore utilizing such diverse surgical and information technologies as minimally invasive, laproscopic, robotic, telemedicine and medical simulation. The Nicholson Center is a learning institution and therefore very well aligned with the role of the new Endowed Chair. About the Endowment Simulation is currently used by hospital training programs and hospitals to assist with education and assuring/testing for competency. With the large number of current nurses or other clinical personnel reaching retirement and the greater demand for health care personnel, we must hire a n increasing number of new graduates. Health care also continues to become more and more clinically complex. Given these factors and probably others, we see an increasing need for simulation. The endowment money was not given to build more simulation, but to look at how we use simulation.
