5 UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program The Department of Nursing offers a program, with two options, that leads to the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN). The degree requires a minimum of 125 semester units, and the nursing curriculum sequence covers six semesters. The Generic BSN Option serves post high school students, whereas the Accelerated BSN Option caters to students holding non-nursing baccalaureate degrees who have completed necessary prenursing coursework. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and the California Public Health Nurse Certificate. RN to BSN Program The California State University, Fresno (CSUF), Department of Nursing offers opportunity for advanced placement in the baccalaureate program for applicants with prior educational experience in nursing. The curriculum is designed to emphasize theory-based practice in nursing and provide the foundation for graduate study in nursing. Students will be prepared to manage both psychiatric disorders and mental health problems. DOCTORAL PROGRAMS Doctor of Nursing Practice Program California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) and San José State University have joined together to offer a joint post-master's Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The name of the joint doctoral program is California State University, Northern Consortium Doctor of Nursing Practice (NorCal DNP). The program has been approved by the Chancellor s office and has been accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The program will be seeking accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in the near future. The DNP is a practice degree designed to prepare nurse leaders and advanced practice nurses for evidence-based practice in patient care, leadership, and educational roles. The culminating experience for this program is a doctoral project, rather than a dissertation. This program is designed for working professionals and will be offered in an online format with occasional intensive sessions held alternately on the Fresno State and San José campuses. The program follows the cohort model; there is no part-time option. This is a 5-semester, 37-unit program that can be completed in 21 months of full-time study. OTHER NURSING PROGRAMS LVN 30-Unit Option LVN 30 Unit Option students must contact the Department Chair of Nursing for preadmission advising.
