2 ST Math Overview Your child uses visual clues to help JiJi across the screen and past an obstacle. While engaged in the puzzles, your child is learning math concepts. The feedback provided for each puzzle will help your child figure out how to solve problems.

3 How to help at home? If your child is struggling, help them by asking questions about what they see happening on the screen. You should not give them the correct answer. The goal of the puzzles is to promote problem-solving. Facilitation questions (handout)

4 There are four levels of reports... Administrative Level Teacher Level Parent Level Student Level

5 Administrative Level District staff members review reports to see whether schools, grade levels and classes are making appropriate progress.!! Look for trends within the data!! Principals review reports to see how each grade levels and classes is progressing.

6 Sample Aggregate Report District Level Users with district-level access will see a customized dashboard showing all ST Math schools in the district at a glance. Total number of schools, active students, and overall district progress are displayed above the individual breakdown for each school. To see a report for a specific school, click on the school. Access the Aggregate Progress Report by clicking the graph icon To print the report use the drop down menu. You may choose to save the report as a graphical PDF or export the data to a spreadsheet for further manipulation and analysis. In the Aggregate District Progress Report, all schools are.

9 Class Progress Report Monitor Navigate to the Report tab by selecting the Class Progress section of the Class Card. Select any heading to sort the report by that column s data. Circles indicate issues with ST Math usage. Select the back arrow to return to the Class Card. Row displays class Use the dropdown to easily navigate between classes. 10 Alerts Monitor Sample #2 Monitor classes using the Alerts tab which highlights issues as they arise. The tab is organized by Alert type. Underneath each Alert heading is a list of students currently experiencing that issue. Closely monitoring the alerts will inform you of students who may need your help, allowing you to prioritize and resolve issues more quickly. Status Frame Alerts indicate students waiting to be linked to your class, stuck students, or those who may be sharing a password. Look for the same color status frame on the student s screen to resolve the issue (see page 19 for details). Note: Students must enter their information or picture password before being ready to be linked to a class. Use the dropdown to easily navigate between classes.

11 Status Frames Monitor Status frames notify the teacher of a specific issue that requires attention. These colored frames appear around ST Math screens so that, in most cases, the student can continue playing while waiting for the teacher to assist. The GREEN status frame means the student is new to ST Math. Action: Triple-click/tap the bottom-right corner of the status frame and link the student to your class. Tip: Link this student before addressing other colored status frames. The YELLOW status frame means the student may be sharing his/her password with another The BLUE status frame means the student is not on a class roster. This may be a returning ST Math student starting a new year or a student in the process of moving from one class to another within a school. The PINK status frame means the student is from a different school. Action: Triple-click/tap the bottom-right corner of the status frame and link the student to your class. Verify that all information is correct. Action: Triple-click/tap the bottom-right corner of the status frame and link the student to your class. The ORANGE status frame means the student is stuck in the current level. The RED status frames mean teacher assistance is needed. Action: Triple-click/tap the Sample #3

13 Student Detail Report Monitor On the Reports tab, select Student Detail from the Report dropdown menu. View the Student Detail report for any student by using the dropdown menu. Summary of key student information. Compares progress, mastery, and usage data with class averages. Sample Print or save as CSV (only when accessing the JiJi Console from a computer). Logs into console as the student. Note: This exits you out of the JiJi Console. In the JiJi Console, scroll down to see the entire report. Identifies issues that may affect student progress and mastery (see page 26-27). Tracks Standards Mastery percentages within each content area. Monitors the student s rate of progress for each content area.

16 The Game Toolbar Sample #2 Monitor SCD (Student Code): Look at this to verify the correct student is logged in. Back Arrow: Returns to the level-selection screen. Also used to exit the program. The letters in the SCD represent the first letter of the student s first name and the first two letters of the last name. Question Mark: If the game has a tutorial, clicking this button will launch it. Refresh: Resets the current puzzle so the student can start over without losing a JiJi. Vertical Bars: Indicates the level currently being played. JiJi: Number of tries remaining. Raised Hand: Students can ask for help by selecting this button, and a red status frame will appear around the game content. Clicking a second time will lower the hand and remove the red status frame. This feature autolocks if it is abused. Score: Indicates the percent completion of the current level. The total score is always 100%.

Students can share or record: Increase in Syllabus and Mastery Progress Number of puzzles solved Any hurdles that have been mastered Goal setting and closure activities can increase student motivation and progress. Consider: Journal prompts Class discussions about games or puzzles that are fun, challenging, or connect to class lessons Setting progress goals of 1% per session
