2 Silicon CPV TECHNOLOGY Silicon CPV Technology The dependability, performance, reliability and lifespan of a solar LED lighting system is determined by how efficiently the components operate together as a system. Other very important factors to take into consideration are installation time, routine maintenance, through life changes and total cost of ownership (TCO). Solar Energy Management Engine The heart of SCPV s range of Solar lighting solutions, is the Solar Energy Management Engine (EME). This microprocessor controlled energy management system (EMS), uses real time adaptive profiling to ensure that the system key components are monitored and supervised to maximise product performance, increase component life expectancy and minimise the need for routine maintenance. An integral part of the EME system is a maximum power point tracker (MPPT). The MPPT system adapts in real time to ensure that all available power is extracted from the PV panel. An additional 30% of available solar energy is supplied compared to traditional systems. The management engine also has a built in network communication facility. This facility allows remote monitoring and management of the system. Solar PV Panels SCPV manufacture a range of high quality solar panels. High efficiency cells have been specifically selected for this application and the PV panel manufactured to create a superior product. As shown the panel is tilted at the appropriate angle for the location. This ensures maximum energy collection during sunlight hours. This allows for optimum system performance during periods of low solar insolation, even in some of the most difficult solar conditions on earth.

3 Silicon CPV TECHNOLOGY Batteries Batteries in the Silicon CPV systems are monitored and controlled through the Energy Management Engine (EME), including charging, discharging, voltage and battery temperature. Silicon CPV batteries are selected to provide the longest service life for the environmental and usage conditions that they operate in. Battery Characteristics The batteries are manufactured using a Lithium Imd technology. This type of battery has a low loss, typically 5% compared to 25% for a traditional lead acid type. The depth of battery discharge is a key factor that determines battery life. Typically with a lead acid type battery the state charge state is kept within 20%-80% limits. Using the Silicon CPV s batteries the depth of discharge can be up to 100%. The graph below clearly shows that by using this type of battery allows for a minimum of 2000 charge and discharge cycles at a temperature of 45 C with a depth of discharge (DOD) of up to 100%. This results in a life expectancy of a minimum of 5 years and a performance increase compared to lead acid batteries of up to 10%. High Efficiency LED Light Array The propriety microprocessor based control and drive circuitry and the use of high output LED s, ensures that the LED array delivers up to 180 Lumens per Watt. Light Optics Silicon CPV uses an advanced LED optics system that provides an increase of up to 20% in light output compared to other comparable systems. This advanced system allows lamp post spacing of up to 50m resulting in a lower overall project cost.

4 Silicon CPV LIGHT PATTERNS Lenses and Optics Optics are the elements that shape and direct the light generated by the LED array. Optics can be defined as devices used to control light output so that it is a usable source. Silicon CPV have used advanced lenses, reflectors and optical components to ensure that the light generated is focused on the exact area required. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Unbox the Solar Street Light Remove the battery pack by undoing a single screw Using a small screwdriver set the battery pack EMS controller switch to Test mode Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Replace the battery pack do not screw back in place at this time Check that the LED light is illuminated Using a small screwdriver set the battery pack EMS controller switch to Operational mode Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Fix the Street light pole adaptor to the top of the lamppost as shown Mount the Solar Street Light on top of the lamppost adaptor Align the light head and securely fit in place using the fixing screws supplied
