12 Motivation The advantages of biomethane: Local production possible An independent, flexible and storable energy source Allows efficient generation of energy in line with actual demand 2020 goal in Germany Grid injection of 6 billion cubic meters of biomethane annually Currently there are: 107 biogas upgrading plants processing a total 67,000 Nm³/h biomethane We have therefore achieved about 10 % of the 2020 goal so far (Source: Biogaspartner 2012) To meet the 2020 goal, it would be necessary to build an additional 700 plants per year, each processing 200 Nm³/h biogas 12
