Teaching and Leadership Research clear that quality of leadership and teaching are two of, if not the key drivers raising progress and attainment Good teaching adds 1 year additional learning to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds System Changes Withinschool variation Many policy changes from Sep will rely on middle leaders to implement them (curriculum, PRP and life after levels) For self-improving system to succeed, leaders working out of school need to leave strong middle leadership in school Ofsted explicitly looking at middle leaders and succession 65% of variation in pupil performance from within school 4x more variation within schools than between schools Solution is consistency of good teaching middle leaders drive this in teams, across the school and even beyond
