3 Hello Future All Star Staff, I would like to start by thanking you for your interest in being a part of the YMCA Simcoe Muskoka day camp team. We a looking to hire 150 motivated individuals who understand this summer will be about giving back to kids in their community. I want to take this time to give you a little more information about what your summer will look like if you chose to apply and are successful. The life of a counsellor is full time management of children position. You will learn patience, hard work and how to be a leader. Counsellors are the lifeblood of camp; they keep the kids entertained and will be the reason why the children come back to camp. The counsellors job can be exhausting, between swimming, behavior management, starting games, singing songs. But if you are up for the challenge you can make a big difference in children s lives. The life of an inclusion counsellor is one of great reward. You need to be able to work in a team and sometimes independently. Successful candidates should understand that they are employed to help kids integrate into the camp environment. Fostering their campers to make friends and feeling included is the ultimate goal. This position can sometimes feel like you are on an island, positive communication with parents and other staff is required. The life of programmers/section heads is a constant creative opportunity. You will be looked to for leadership on how to interact with kids. Challenging behaviors will take up a portion of your day. This job can be stressful if you have not worked in camping before as it requires a lot of quick thinking. Candidates should have a background in dealing with kids and programming camps. The life of a Coordinator is a lot of management. You will be managing staff, managing camper behaviors, managing paperwork. The coordinator will be looked to as a leader of their perspective camps, and their attitude will dictate the way the camp runs. This role can be challenging at times, but is meant for those who are able to deal with stress in a constructive way and each day keep a positive attitude. I hope this gives you a better idea about what option would be best for you, please look through the full job descriptions for more information. At this point I would like to discuss the changes that are occurring for the 2016 summer. First and foremost I would like to introduce our new camp, Springwater. This camp will be located at Springwater Provincial Park and will be an outdoor/nature/sport based camp. It will have a coordinator/programmer and 5-8 staff. It will be able to be accessed through Angus, Barrie, Innisfil, Collingwood, Wasaga. With this we have decided we will no longer be running Innisfil-Geneva Park bus. I know this will upset a few people, but we believe that the bus option was too long and we can offer a great program at Springwater. Thank you,

4 JOB TITLE: Counsellor POSITION LOCATIONS: Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil (Tottenham, Alliston,Bradford) Midland, Orillia/Geneva Park (Barrie,Orillia), Parry Sound & Wasaga Beach, Springwater(Angus,Innisfil,Collingwood,Wasaga) PLACEMENT: Seasonal (June 27 Sept 2nd, 2015) Camp Counsellors are responsible for making the magic of camp happen. They will provide amazing adventures, deliver daily camp programs and ensure their camper s safety and supervision. Camp Counsellors are fun, creative, caring and energetic. You will be required to work 7:00-3:00pm, 8:30-4:30pm or 10:00-6:00pm.Each day you will be in charge of a group of 10 children leading them throughout activities all day. Programming: To lead and participate in all programs and to actively swim each day with the campers. Delivering programming based on skill level, and age of participants Administration: Complete all necessary paperwork (site checks, program paper work, incident reports, pre-camp phone calls, staff meetings and parent feedback). Safety: To be responsible for the safety, supervision and security of all participants in your care at all times following the YMCA Policies and Procedures To participate with the children in a positive and supportive manner using the Healthy Childhood Development frameworks. Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada. Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. 5 JOB TITLE: Inclusion Counsellor POSITION LOCATIONS: Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia/Geneva Park, Gravenhurst, Parry Sound Wasaga Beach, Springwater PLACEMENT: Seasonal (June 22 Sept 4, 2015) Inclusion Counsellors are responsible for providing one on one support to campers with special needs while at camp. Inclusion Counsellors will receive training and support but should come into the role with experience working with this sector. Inclusion staff are caring, enthusiastic and patient and will use inclusive strategies to ensure each campers success in the camp program. You will be required to work 7:00-3:00pm, 8:30-4:30pm or 10:00-6:00pm. Support: Providing 1-1/2-1 support to children with special needs. Assist in developing program inclusion strategies to create a successful camping experience for all campers. Safety: To be responsible for the safety, supervision and security of all participants in your care at all times following the YMCA Policies and Procedures Managing: Manage behavioral incidents and implementing behavioral redirection strategies Administration: Complete all necessary paperwork (site checks, program paper work, incident reports, pre-camp phone calls, staff meetings and parent feedback). Act as resource to day camp staff team in terms of inclusive programming Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada. Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. Child and Youth Focused: Commits to assisting growth and development among children and youth. 6 JOB TITLE: On-Site Programmer/ Section Head (Geneva Park) POSITION LOCATIONS: Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia/Geneva Park, Parry Sound & Wasaga Beach, Springwater PLACEMENT: Seasonal (June 20 th 2015 Sept 2 th 2015) On-site Programmers are responsible for assisting in the development and delivery of the daily creative, fun and interactive programming. They also provide on-going support to all counsellors and volunteers and, act in lieu of On-Site Coordinator. They will be an expert in program delivery and have a wealth of back pocket games, transition activities and positive role model to staff and campers. The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is committed to fair and accessible employment practices. Programming: Develop and implement age appropriate program curriculum aligned with the YMCA Values + CATCH philosophy and to be available to lead all programs assigned and to actively swim each day with the campers Administration: To place supply orders to On-Site Coordinator, maintain program equipment inventory and purchase program equipment as needed. Newsletter information submitted to Coordinator weekly. Participation in weekly staff meetings. Coaching: Coach staff to lead age appropriate camp activities and programs overall site leadership using the Healthy Childhood Development frameworks. 7 JOB TITLE: On-Site Coordinator POSITION LOCATIONS: Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil(Bradford,Tottenham,Alliston), Midland, Orillia/Geneva Park, Parry Sound & Wasaga Beach, Springwater PLACEMENT: Seasonal (Mid May 2015 Sept 2nd 2015) The On-Site Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership to the daily camp operations of their site. They are responsible for camper safety, management of staff and volunteers, daily problem solving and providing excellent values based customer service to our families and community. This role can be broken down to 25% administration, 25% parent communication and 50% behavior management. Coordinate: Daily operations of designated day camp site Supervise: Staff and volunteers including on-going support, coaching, training and performance management using YMCA Healthy Childhood Development resources. Communication: Working daily with site location managers to ensure proper communication each day. Strong communication with Administration, Assistant Director and Director Responsible for operating staffing ratio. Make appropriate schedules. Crisis response following YMCA procedures Administration: Payroll, County Attendance, Family Communication, Site Reports, Year-end Report and program supply ordering Child and Youth Focused: Commits to assisting growth and development among children and youth. Concern for Health and Safety: Acknowledges and understands how to manage and educate others of risk and harm reduction. 8 JOB TITLE: Day Camp Inclusion Coordinator/Behavior specialist POSITION LOCATIONS: Barrie (with travel to all site locations) PLACEMENT: Seasonal June 13 th September 2 nd, 2015 The inclusion coordinator will provide leadership for the 8-12 inclusion counsellors spread throughout Simcoe/Muskoka day camps. You will provide strategies as well as help to model effective behavior management strategies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervision: Travelling to each Day Camp location in Simcoe/Muskoka weekly to provide support to all Day camp Staff. Administration: Be the key contact person for the parents/guardians of the 1:1 campers. Talk to them about any issues or positives their camper might be having Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada. Crisis response following YMCA procedures Developing strong relationships to On-Site Coordinators to provide support required, specifically on behavior management. Concern for Health and Safety: Acknowledges and understands how to manage and educate others of risk and harm reduction. Inclusiveness: Understands and commits to promoting equal opportunity and support for all children regardless of ability. 9 JOB TITLE: Day Camp Assistant Director POSITION LOCATIONS: Barrie (with travel to all site locations) PLACEMENT: Seasonal Early May Sept The Assistant Day Camp Director will provide significant leadership to all day camp sites and staff teams within the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. Program development, volunteer management, evaluation, school presentations, recruiting and trainings all in conjunction with the Director of Day Camping Supervision: Travelling to each Day Camp location in Simcoe/Muskoka weekly to provide support to all Day Camp Staff Safety: Conducting on-going Day Camp Program quality assurance/oca/county of Simcoe requirements Assist in the recruitment, training, development and management of staff and volunteers using YMCA Healthy Childhood Development resources. Volunteer Development: Managing Volunteer placement and tracking of volunteer hours Management and development of Day Camp program content, training tools and resources Organizing and planning fundraising events Communication: Developing, and maintaining positive relationships with camp families, external contract service providers and the Y community Developing strong relationships to On-Site Coordinators to provide support required on a daily basis Acting in Lieu of the Director of Day Camp or in place of a On-Site Coordinator Concern for Health and Safety: Acknowledges and understands how to manage and educate others of risk and harm reduction. 10 JOB TITLE: Day Camp Administrator LOCATION: Barrie PLACEMENT: Seasonal The Day Camp Administrator will provide significant leadership to the Director, Assistant Director and On-Site Coordinators. Providing SAM standards customer service to our Day Camp families and service providers, the Administrator is responsible for bookings, scheduling, customer service and providing support to the Day Camp leadership team. Demonstrates strong commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Maintains all administrative duties of Day Camp daily operations, ensuring required reports are accurate and completed to established deadlines Develops and sustains good working relationships with provincial and municipal authorities. Develops and sustains excellent working relationships with members of the community Gives leadership to the Day Camp Leadership Team on a daily basis Returning phone calls and managing member/family/staff questions, concerns, comments in a timely, values based manner Develops and sustains good parent relations on a daily basis acting as a model for all staff Maintains relationships with all Day Camp providers in regards to planning/booking and organizing all trips Assists in aspects of Training and Development of Day Camp Staff Delivers promotional information sessions in the community The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is committed to fair and accessible employment practices.
