1 Preferential Admission Scheme for Admission Examination Candidates 2016/2017 As a leading public university in Macao SAR, the University of Macau has the mission of cultivating talents to meet the needs of local community. To recruit local talented students for the academic year 2016/2017, the University has devised a Preferential Admission Scheme for Admission Examination candidates. Applicants with listed qualifications may receive bonus of 10 to 30 marks added to the results of the Admission Examination. Details of the scheme are listed in the following: 1. Application Qualification 1.1 Academic Awards (Science and Technology related) Applicants with any of the following awards: First/Second/Third prize in the Macao regional contest a. for the National Network Originality Competition (senior secondary school category) b. Award of the Macao Robot Competition Individual/Team Award(s) of the Macao Adolescents c. Science & Technology Invention Contest or China Adolescents Science & Technology Invention Contest Award of the Macao Intel International Science and d. Engineering Fair or the World's Intel International Science and Engineering Fair Award of the "Awarding Program for Future e. Scientists" f. Competition in Chemistry g. Competition in Physics h. Competition in Mathematics Award of Macao Communications Museum Electronic i. Device Construction Competition (senior secondary school category) Award of Macau High School Fun Science j. Competition (senior secondary school category) Award of CEM Solar Model Car Race (senior k. secondary school category) 1/5

2 1.2 Academic Awards (Arts related) and Community Services Applicants with any of the following awards: a. The Best Debater of the Inter-school Debate Competition (secondary school category in semi-final or final stage) b. Individual Award of the Inter-school Drama Competition (secondary school category) c. Winner of Solo Speaking Competition (senior secondary school category) d. Award of Delta Asia Quiz e. First/Second/Third prize in the Diplomacy Knowledge Competition for Macao Youths f. Platinum / Golden / Silver / Bronze Award for Macao Youths Volunteer 1.3 Sports Awards/Qualifications a. Awards in any of the following competitions: The top eight in ranking by participating in the competitions organized by International Olympic Committee or recognized by the General Association of International Sports Federations (Comprehensive Games at National level or above, such as Olympic Games, Asian Games, Lusofonia Games, East Asian Games, National Games of the People's Republic of China, Youth Olympic Games, Asian Youth Games, China's National Urban Games, World Games, Asian Indoor Games, National Games of the People's Republic of China, World Middle School Games, Pan Pacific School Games, National Middle School Games. Tournaments and Championships organized by different International or National Sports Federations such as World Championship, World Cup, Asian Championship, Asian Cup, and China National Tournament or Championship). Invitational tournaments, Tryouts, Testing or Exhibition matches of above-mentioned items are not applicable to the Preferential Admission Scheme. 2/5

Awards/qualifications in any of the following sports items: Sports Volleyball Basketball Football Handball Hockey Tennis Squash Badminton Table Tennis Swimming Track & Field Judo Karate Wushu Fencing Rock Climbing Macao representatives/macao secondary schools representative/ Champion team in any competition among Macao secondary schools Macao representatives/ Macao school representatives/ First, Second or Third prize winner (individual award) in any Competition among Macao Schools Time of 1.4 Musicianship Students of musical talents (restricted to musical instruments only) may apply for the Scheme. Applicants should submit related award certificates, in addition to a video of solo performance of around 5 minutes. Award types can be classified in the following: /Qualification a. Achievement shown from the practical examinations included in the syllabus of ABRSM (The Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music). Certificate of a pass, merit, or distinction of Grade 5 or above. b. Achievement shown from the practical examinations included in the syllabus of LCM (London College of Music Examinations). Certificate of a pass, merit, or distinction of Grade 5 or above. c. Achievement shown from the practical examinations included in the syllabus of China Central Conservatory of Music. Certificate of Grade 6 or above. d. Proof to show participation in performance (concerts, contests, etc.) held by international or regional organizations. e. Proof to show participation in performance (concerts, contests, etc.) held by the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, Macau Band Directors Association or any other governmental institutions. 4 1.5 Other Distinguished Talents on Exceptional Cases The University will also accept applications of students with other distinguished talents (not listed in above-mentioned Special Admission Scheme) on exceptional basis. Evaluation of qualifications and bonus marks to be granted will be considered by the University s assessment panel of the Preferential Admission Scheme. 2. Application Qualification and Procedures 2.1 Applicants applying for the Preferential Admission Scheme must be current Form 6/Senior Middle Three/Grade 12 students of Macao secondary schools and sit for Admission Examination of the University of Macau. They also have to successfully complete all the application procedures within the application period of Admission Examination (11/01-19/02/2016). Applicants are advised to read the Online Application Guide for Preferential Admission Scheme for application procedures first before submitting online application. 2.2 Applicants should login to the Online Application System for Preferential Admission Scheme (available at reg.umac.mo) to submit the application form and upload the certificates/testimonials/performance video (the performance video part applicable only to Musicianship applicants) of awards or qualifications onto the application system. Application Period for Preferential Admission Scheme is 11/01-26/02/2016 (which is one week later than the application deadline of Admission Examination). Applicants should submit the application through the online system and do not need to submit any paper application or documents to the Registry. 2.3 Each applicant can submit one online application only. Applicants can apply for a maximum of 10 items of your awards/qualifications, across all categories, via the online application system. 2.4 Applicants must scan and upload the certificates of awards/qualifications to the Online Application System. All submitted documents must be in A4 size, PDF format and the file size should not be greater than 5MB. Applicants with more than one award/qualification in the same category should scan all certificates continuously in black & white colour format and save them in a single PDF file (less than 5MB) and upload the file to the relevant field. 2.5 If applying for Musicianship, the applicant should also produce and upload, in addition to necessary certificates, a video of his/her solo performance in the following format: The applicant should have a simple introduction of his/her name, application number (format: APB6XXXXX) and the name of the music performance with a clear shot of the face before the presentation begins; Camera changing shots from self-introduction to end of performance and editing are not allowed in the production of video; Only one single music performance is required; The duration of each musical instrument performance should not exceed 5 minutes; The file size should not be greater than 500MB; The video format must be played in Windows Media. Should the video be not played, the performance can be regarded as invalid and no extra marks will be granted. 4/5

5 2.6 Applicants can update any information/files whether or not the applicant has submitted his/her application during the application period. However, further revision cannot be made after 23:59 on 26/02/ If the applicant fails to complete the application for Admission Examination, fails to complete the application information or upload required supporting documents (or not readable)/videos in the online application system of Preferential Admission Scheme by the application deadline, the application will not be processed. 2.8 Results of the Preferential Admission Scheme will be released together with the admission results by the University in June Assessment 3.1 Upon careful verification and assessment by the University of Macau, applicants with any of the above qualifications may receive a bonus of 10 to 30 marks added to the results of all Admission Examination subjects required for the applied programmes. Total marks of each area in general Academic Awards (Science and Technology related)/academic Awards (Arts related) and Community Services/Sports Awards/Musicianship to be granted should not exceed 40 marks while cumulative marks from different area are allowed. The added marks will be released to the applicant together with the Admission Examination result. 3.2 Applicants may not receive any bonus marks if the information submitted does not meet the qualification requirements. 4. Statements and Responsibilities 4.1 Candidates offered admission to the University of Macau must present the originals of related awards or qualifications to the Registry of the University within the specified period. Otherwise, applicants will be disqualified from the admission to the University. The University also reserves the right to verify the submitted documents with related institutions. 4.2 Applicants must guarantee that the information given in the application form is TRUE. The University of Macau reserves the right to terminate the application/admission or study at any time if any UNTRUE information is found later. Should such a case occur, no fees neither documents submitted will be refunded and returned and the applicant should bear all the consequent responsibilities. 4.3 During the study at UM, all talented students have the obligations to participate in the related activities and competitions organized by UM or outside parties, so that they can continue to develop the skills and foster a diversified learning environment inside the University.
