1 How to apply Applying online To apply to study at Monash University, first read through the easy step-by-step guide, as this outlines how to use the applicant portal and provides links to the other important web-pages you will need to access in order to find out about: the courses you are interested in studying the specific entry requirements for each course the documentation you will need to provide with your application additional documentation required for international applicants. When you have read through the step-by-step guide and have all your paperwork ready to be uploaded to the applicant portal, you can apply online. Once you have applied online, you can track the progress of your application by logging back into the applicant portal. Following the step-by-step guide The step-by-step guide will provide you with simple instructions about the steps involved in applying via the Applicant Portal. The guide also includes sample pop up screens to assist you in understanding the process and steps involved in completing your online application. Completing your application via the Applicant Portal The applicant portal has 12 steps for non-vtac domestic applicants (ie mid-year and post-graduate applicants) and 13 steps for international applicants. The additional step for international students includes the application fee page. International applicants will need their credit card details to proceed with this payment before they can lodge their application. Please note that if you are an international student currently studying Year 12/VCE or the International Baccalaureate (in Australia) applying for semester 1 entry, you must apply through VTAC. The applicant portal requires all applicants to step through all screens. Where the information requested on a screen is not relevant for the applicant, select a No Answer response. You will then be able to proceed to the next screen. The final step is to accept the terms and conditions. By selecting Accept the application will automatically be submitted for assessment. Saving your information in the Applicant Portal You can log out and log back in to the application portal to continue your application at any time. The application program automatically saves the information you provide and any documents you have uploaded after you complete each page. Any applications you have not submitted will remain saved in the applicant portal for up to 28 days. Once you open up an application you have already saved, the system requires you to step through each of the screens again and check the information provided is correct. Where you have already completed the information you select Continue to move to the next screen.

2 Internet connection trouble? Online applications via the applicant portal are able to be processed more swiftly than applications received by mail or . However, if you are experiencing internet connection problems when applying online, you can download an application form and mail or this with the relevant documentation: Domestic graduate / postgraduate course application form: Postgraduate application form (pdf, 136kb). 3 Getting started Step 1 Entry requirements All students applying for a course at Monash University must satisfy the entry requirements. Your first step is to decide the course / courses you would like to apply to study and check the entry requirements for each course. Select a course to study and understand your eligibility For Undergraduate courses check the Undergraduate qualifications database for information specific to your country. This database will advise you of minimum entry requirements for Monash University undergraduate courses. For Postgraduate courses check the Monash Course Finder. As you will need information about the specific courses when you apply online, check the course codes on the Monash Course Finder and write down for each course you are interested in studying: - the course code - the name of the course - the start date Also check on the Monash Course Finder for any specific documentation required for the course you are applying to study. Prepare your documentation Prior to applying online you will need all your documentation scanned and ready for uploading to the applicant portal. Monash Course Finder provides details for specific documentation requirements for each course which you will need to attach to your application via the application portal. Additional documentation requirements for International applicants: - a certified copy of your passport, and - evidence the English language requirements have been met. The English language requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate courses are listed on the Admissions webpage of the Monash University website. Document translations If your documents are in a language other than English, you will need to supply official certified translations of the documents.

4 Create and account and log in Step 2 Your personal account If you do not have an active account you will need to set this up, as your will be used to provide your account ID in the applicant portal. Using the applicant portal You will need to create an account in the applicant portal. Once created, your account ID and password will be sent to your nominated address. The following provides a summary of the steps involved and screen shots of the applicant portal: Create an account Create an account To begin, select Click here to create an account Enter your personal details Login to your account Check your The login screen Enter your Surname and Given name/s as they appear on your personal identification. Enter a valid address. This will be used to provide your Account ID. Create a password and continue. Check spam folders if you do not receive the after completing this step. The giving your Account ID and password also generates the link above where you created your account. Click the link to return to the login screen. To begin creating your application, select Click here to log in. Login to your account Enter your 6 digit Account ID ed to you, and the password you created. Click login. Creating a new application Click Apply for Course.

5 Personal details (Steps 1 & 2 in the Applicant Portal) Check your details The information provided when creating the account defaults. Confirm your details are correct, particularly your Family Name and Given name(s) and amend if necessary. Other personal details If you are applying to study at an Australian campus, use options 1 6. Applicants to Malaysia or South Africa select from options International students are prompted to enter their country of citizenship. If you have studied at Monash (or the affiliates listed) previously, enter the details. Include your previous surname if it has changed. Enter your current postal address. For International phone details, include the country and area codes. Access and equity details (Step 2 in the Applicant Portal) Support services Domestic Tick the box, if appropriate. applicants Support services International applicants The University provides support services to students. If you respond to this question (they are different for Domestic and International students), then you may be contacted by the University to discuss the options available to you for assistance. You may also be asked to provide documentation to support your application.

6 Selecting a course, offering option and commencement date Within the Applicant Portal you will be required to nominate the course or courses you would like to apply to study. When investigating which course you are interested in studying, you will need to record the following information: - the name of the course/s - the course codes you will use in your application - the campus, attendance type and attendance mode (ie on-campus or off-campus) - the entry requirements for each course you would like to apply to study - the commencement date. To choose a course go to the Monash Course Finder. If you are interested in studying at one of Monash University s offshore campuses, click on the relevant links in the table below. International applicants: Select a course Step 3 for undergraduate courses check the undergraduate qualifications database for information specific to your country. This database will advise you of minimum entry requirements for Monash University undergraduate courses for postgraduate courses check the Monash Course Finder. Select a course (Step 3 in the Applicant Portal) Choose the correct course/s Go to the Monash Course Finder to choose a course. For offshore campuses, select Malaysia undergraduate Malaysia postgraduate, or South Africa Enter a course code or keywords from the course title. Select the offering option Select the commencement period Select the most appropriate offering option, deciding on: Location (campus) Attendance mode (on campus, off campus) Attendance type (full time, part time) Click New Search to change the course, or select Continue. Some courses may have intake several years in advance. Select the appropriate option. If this screen did not display, it is because there is only one option for commencement. The information will default into the following screen when you click Continue Check your preferences Agent details (For International applicants only) If you re applying for several courses, select Add Course and repeat the three previous steps. When multiple preferences have been added, you can change the order by using the arrows on the left. Use the Edit and Delete buttons to change or remove a course. International students can record their agent details here, if applicable.

7 Previous study and work experience Step 4 Previous study and work experience For course entry at Monash we primarily assess on academic merit. Some courses may require you to present additional information in support of your application such as: work experience portfolio work an audition why you would like to study the course. Please check the special application requirements which you can access within course finder. Applying for credit If you are applying for credit for prior learning, you must complete the credit transfer form (pdf, 199KB). Previous study and work experience (Steps 4 to 9 in the Applicant Portal) Recording secondary Enter your secondary education details at this step. education Use the drop down list to select the correct answer, or type into (Step 4) the field for other Qualification not listed. If you studied overseas, you must state if English was the medium of instruction. Note: if you cannot remember or do not know your Overall Score, then enter 0 to allow your application to proceed. Check your secondary education details A summary of the information you entered. Select Delete to remove a record, or Add New Record to provide further qualifications. Recording tertiary education (Step 5) Check your tertiary education details Enter your tertiary education details at this step. Use the drop down list to select the correct answer, or type into the field for other Qualification not listed. If you studied overseas, you must state if English was the medium of instruction. A link to the Credit Application Form is provided if required. A summary of the information you entered. Select Delete to remove a record, or Add New Record to provide further qualifications. Confirm credit (Step 6) This step will only display if you entered information into the Tertiary Education Details step. Tick the box to confirm if you are applying for credit.

8 Previous study and work experience (Steps 4 to 9 in the Applicant Portal) Recording other qualification Add details of other qualifications to be included with your details application. (Step 7) Check your other qualification details Record your work experience/employment details (Step 8) A summary of the information you entered. Select Delete to remove a record, or Add New Record to provide further qualifications. Add details of your work experience and employment details to be included with your application. Check your work experience/employment details Record your English test details (Step 9) A summary of the information you entered. Select Delete to remove a record, or Add New Record to provide further information. Select the English Test Type from the drop down list and indicate if this is completed. Selecting completed will prompt you to enter the test date. Check your English test details A summary of the information you entered. Select Delete to remove a record, or Add New Record to provide further information.

9 Upload documents Step 5 Uploading your documents to the Applicant Portal You will need all your documentation scanned and saved, ready for uploading to your application. It is important that documents are uploaded individually into the Applicant Portal and not loaded as a single consolidated document. When saving your documents please clearly name these so they correspond with the type of document you are uploading. For example if you have scanned your academic record, name this as Transcript and your certified copy of your passport as Passport. Orientation of scanned documents Some documents when they are scanned are either illegible when they are opened or do not appear the right way up so that they can be easily read when opened to be verified to support your application. Once you have scanned your documents please check these before uploading them to the applicant portal to ensure they are both legible and are correctly orientated on the page. Illegible or miss-orientated documents (ie scanned in so that they appear upside down or not right-side up) may delay assessment of your application. Refer to the website for information on documentation required for your online application. Uploading your documents Make sure the documents you upload with your online application are: in the correct format -.jpg,.pdf,.doc or.rtf a maximum of 5 MB each document black and white (Note: colour documents take longer to upload). Extra documents If you are applying for credit for prior learning, you need to provide documents to support this. These documents may include official transcripts or results from previous studies and copies of subject outlines. Please note that credits transferred may affect the duration of your course, which could affect your visa. Some courses may require you to submit other documents, such as details of relevant work experience. You can check your course's entry requirements in Monash Course Finder and view the Postgraduate Course Guide. Document translations If your documents are in a language other than English, you will need to supply official certified translations of the documents. Upload documents (Step 10 in the Applicant Portal) Document Upload Documents should be uploaded individually. (Step 10) Select the type of document to be uploaded and enter comments if necessary. Click Browse to search for the correct file, select, then click Upload File. As each file is ready, it will be displayed under Documents Already Uploaded. Note: There is a document file size limit of 5 MB. Make sure you select Print A Cover Sheet to submit your hard copy documents, following the directions to certify them correctly.

10 Review and submit application Step 6 Review your application and submit online Make sure you: carefully review all the information entered in your application upload all the relevant documents. You can make changes by clicking Previous and re-entering the data but once you have submitted your application you cannot change the information submitted or delete documents. You can however add additional documents if the selection officer requests that these are provided. These can be uploaded through the applicant portal. All applicants are required to read and agree the Applicant Declaration terms and conditions. Once you click Accept your application will be submitted. Additional step for international applicants International applicants are required to pay an application fee or enter a waive code if you have been issued a waive fee promotion. Ensure that you have your credit card details ready to pay the AUD$100 non-refundable application fee. Review and submit your application (Step 11 to 13 in the Applicant Portal) Review your application This is a summary of all the information provided in the (Step 11) application. Click Edit in the relevant section to change information if required. If all information is accurate and complete, click Continue. Applicant declaration (Step 12) Please read the declaration carefully. You must accept the declaration to submit the application. Click Accept. Note: Once you Accept, the next screen can take a minute to load. Please be patient. Paying your application fee (Step 13 For International applicants only) Application receipt International students will be prompted to pay an application fee of AUD$100. Payment can be made by credit card. If you have a Waive Code, click the link and enter the code. Note: Waive codes are given to applicants via agencies, or during Monash promotional events. Note: Domestic students do not pay an application fee. If you are a domestic applicant and are prompted to pay a fee, please contact the Admissions Unit on for assistance. This is the last step of the application process and will display your application number. Your application number will also be ed to the address you initially provided.

11 Track your application and offer Step 7 Monitoring the progress of your application You may monitor the progress of your application by logging back into the applicant portal You can also monitor the outcome of the assessment of your application and can either accept or reject an offer through the applicant portal. Track your application and offer Logging back in to your Return to the login screen to check for updates to your application application. If you would like to view a previous application, click View Application Details. You can add documents by selecting Upload or Send Documents and follow the prompts. As your application is processed by staff, you can see updates in the Outcome Status. Responding to an offer The Outcome Status will update when there has been progress with your application. You can accept or reject your offer through your applicant portal by clicking Respond To Offer and following the prompts.
