1 Technical Publications App for Android User s Guide This User s Guide provides instructions on the Technical Publications App for Android tablets available in the Google Play Store. To install the App on any Android device, perform steps 1, 2 and 3 below. 1. Tap Google Play icon 2. Search for Beechcraft Technical Publications 3. Tap the Technical Publications icon Tap Tap The App is installed when the icon appears on one of the Android Home screen pages. Relocating the App icon to the multi-tasking bar at the bottom allows access from any Home screen page. 2 Logging Into the App An internet connection is required the first time a user signs in or to update manuals. An internet connection is not required after initial log-in and when manuals have been downloaded. Enter the same username and password used to log into the Beechcraft website (Flight Manuals, Online IML Manuals, Supplement Packs, etc.). Tap the Auto Sign-in to fill check box to skip entering your username and password each time the App is opened. To retrieve your password, tap Forgot username or password. If a new account or subscription is required, tap Need to Sign Up? Once logged in, access to the App is immediate but only manuals with active subscriptions will be available. 3 Initial View and On-Screen Help On initial view of the app, the Beechcraft Help menu will be displayed. Simply tap the Back button to access the manuals. Information and support contact information is available in the Online Help section. Access the Online Help section through Settings. Support Back Button A Please Download Books message will appear. Click the Download button to start the download process for applicable books/libraries. Use the Back button to get back to the Flight/IML main menus. 4 Main Menu View of Manuals The Main Menu houses the Airplane Flight Manuals, Pilot s Operating Handbooks, Pilot s Operating Manuals and Pilot Checklists. Tap the Flight tab to access these types of manuals. Manuals within the Interactive Maintenance Libraries (IML), such as Maintenance Manuals, Parts Catalogs, Wiring Manual, etc. are accessed by tapping the IML tab. The main menu advises when and how many updates are available. 5 Technical Publication Updates When books are downloaded, they are put into collections which are displayed on the main screen. This screen will show an appropriate warning, such as Update Available or Subscription Expired when books within that collection have an update or when the subscription needs to be renewed. Books may still be viewed when the subscription expires, but no updates will be available to download. The user is cautioned to always ensure books are up to date before using to operate or maintain an airplane. Manuals that are no longer current will be highlighted in red so the user can update the manual(s). Manuals for which there is no longer a subscription are highlighted in brown. It is advised the user always check for updates while an internet connection is available. Remember to click on Refresh when on the update menu to get the latest information. 6 Settings - Help Tap on the Settings icon to customize how often the App checks for updates, using cellular data, auto-lock, etc. The Settings feature also informs the user of the size of books that have downloaded. 7 Settings - Delete All To delete all books, simply tap the Delete All button. This will remove all the books that are installed on the device. The user is cautioned that this cannot be undone once the second Delete All button is tapped. SEE NOTE BELOW! NOTE: Deleting all books and re-downloading an extensive library of books could take a significant amount of time and battery power. Downloading/Updating Manuals Tap the download button on the Main Page An internet connection is required to download books. 8 Downloading/Updating Manuals (Continued) The download will pause if you send the App to the background and activate another App. Remember to restart the Download by tapping the Pause button when you return to the Tech Pubs App. NOTE: The Beechcraft Tech Pubs App is Subscription-Smart. You will only see the books covered by your subscriptions available for download. Once a book or collection of books is downloaded, the corresponding aircraft model will then appear in the Model List. Download the entire library or one book at a time as needed. Hint: When downloading manuals, plug the Android device into a power source to ensure sufficient battery power is available. A PDF Reader is required for viewing manuals once downloaded. Examples provided are being viewed through Adobe Reader by Adobe Systems. NOTE: Several Android readers are available. It is dependent on the user s preference as to which reader should be used. When opening a PDF, the user will be prompted to select a reader. A different reader can be selected each time a PDF is opened (select Just once ) or the user can use the same reader when opening the PDF s (select Always). 9 Download Multiple Manuals Tap to download multiple manuals Tap to start the download Tap boxes to select multiple manuals A message will show the status of the files while downloading. NOTE: If an error occurs during download, such as timing out, click OK then tap the Start Download button again to proceed. The download will resume where it left off. IMPORTANT: All personal annotations and bookmarks will be removed when updates are downloaded. Adobe Reader Toolbar Tap ribbon to navigate manual bookmarks Easy to follow bookmarking within supplemental information. From anywhere within the book, quickly navigate through large documents using thumbnail slider bar. 12 Searching a Document NOTE: A PDF Reader is required for viewing manuals once downloaded. Examples provided are being viewed through Adobe Reader by Adobe Systems. IMPORTANT: All personal annotations and bookmarks will be removed when updates are downloaded. Tap the Magnifier to activate Search (Hint: tap in the middle of the screen if icons are not visible). Enter keyword into search, tap to enter. Tap advance to next incident of keyword selected in search. Press the Search Key on the keypad. Results will be highlighted on pages. (Hint: When searching, start with one or two key words. If results are too extensive, add another keyword to narrow the findings. This feature will vary between PDF reader apps.) 13 Annotating a Book NOTE: PDF Reader Required for viewing manuals once downloaded. Examples provided are being viewed through Adobe Reader by Adobe Systems. IMPORTANT: All personal annotations and bookmarks will be removed when updates are downloaded. To add notes or annotate a book, tap the pencil icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the page. If the pencil icon is vertical, there are no current annotations in that section. When the pencil icon is at an angle, it denotes an existing note with the section and can be edited. Tap the pencil icon. Add a signature Add comments anywhere in your PDF with sticky notes Highlight, strikethrough, and underline tools Add free style to the document Add text with the Add Text tool When the note is finished, tap outside of the Annotation window. Tap Clear to clear the text or tap on the note to delete annotation. NOTE: Notes are made for each page. Examples provided are being viewed through Adobe Reader by Adobe Systems. You may access this help menu from and then tap Help. To begin, press the to download books. An internet connection is required to download books. Once a collection is downloaded, the appropriate aircraft image will appear on the main screen. Simply touch the collection to view all the books associated with it. The App will check for book updates three different ways: 1. When a notification is received. 2. Every 3 Days, Weekly, or Monthly depending upon settings. 3. Manually pushing the refresh button in the download menu. You can adjust the settings to ask before checking for updates, ask before using a cellular data connection with a Wi-Fi connection is not available, and how often updates are checked. An internet connection is required for the first time a user signs in. After a successful sign in, then an internet connection is not required to sign in. You are also given the option to Auto-Sign In. If you no longer want to be signed in automatically, simply tap the icon and tap Sign Out. 17 FAQs Q: A: How do I get back to the main page when I m deep into a manual? Tap Back icon on toolbar to return to where you were last. How can I increase the battery life while using the App? When not updating or downloading, putting the device in Airplane Mode can increase battery life. Close other Apps running in the background. Battery memory has improved with each new release of Android device. For more battery information consult your device users guide. Is there any way of knowing if I have an active subscription or if it s expiring? Yes, since mobile device subscriptions are provided at no charge with regular subscriptions, the My Pubs Account feature on the web can be used to determine when an active subscription expires. For more information, refer to the My Pubs Account User s Guide located in the FAQ section of the web. How can I make suggestions for App enhancements? Go to settings and tap the Help button and then the button. Send us your ideas or questions. You can also rate and/or provide feedback about the App in the Google Play store. If I update a book will all my previous Notes & bookmarks be deleted? Yes, all the notes and bookmarks associated with that book will be deleted. How do I select a PDF reader? Several readers are available in Google Play, many of which are free. Adobe Reader has been selected for illustration purposes of this guide; however, many others are also sufficient. It is all dependent on the user s preference as to which reader should be used. The user will be prompted when opening the first PDF to select a reader from all that have been downloaded to the device. The user can also opt to select a reader each time a PDF is opened (Just once) or always use the same reader when opening PDF s (Always).
