I feel more confident about drawing As well as the return of many popular courses, this exciting term brings a new 3-week course, The Interior World (p8), where students will gain access to breath-taking interior spaces and will draw both their architectural details and the emotive objects housed within them. Another new course, Colour in Painting: from theory to practice (p9) will appeal to those looking to advance their understanding of colour theory, adding new depth and vitality to their painting. Explore a number of dynamic half-day and 1 3 day workshops, including Introduction to Paper Cutting (p15), where participants will discover how to draw with a craft knife to create striking designs, and Brushwork Techniques (p15) which will introduce painters to a range of spectacular effects. Classes do fill quickly, so book early to avoid disappointment. Autumn Half term 24 October 30 October. Booking Booking online is quick and easy. 6 Workshops Just as fantastic this year as last - a very special workshop 3 days to get engrossed in the work of a master! (Old Masters technique) Old Master Techniques Francesca Berlingieri Maxwell 3-day workshop Friday 9 and Saturday 10 September, 10am 4pm, Sunday 11 September, 11am-4pm 145 From Caravaggio to Toulouse-Lautrec, most painters in history have used a tonal painting technique that would allow them to quickly build depth and volume from a dark background and create a strong mood. Over three days, students will copy a detail from the painting of an old master, using that technique. Teaching will also include the preparation of a canvas, preliminary sketches on paper and transferring those drawings to canvas. Some drawing and painting experience is required. Sketching the Gardens at Kilver Court Laurie Steen RWA Friday 16 September, 10.30am-4.30pm 65 (includes Kilver Court Gardens entry) Students will meet at Kilver Court Gardens, near Shepton Mallet, with its beautiful grounds and magnificent nineteenth century viaduct. The day will be spent sketching the scenic landscape, and individual elements within it. The session will begin with warm-up drawing exercises, such as contour drawing, experimental mark-making and emotive sketching. Students will be required to transport themselves to Kilver Court Gardens and back, where there is free onsite parking. Introduction to Drawing Ruth Wallace Saturday 24 September, 10.30am-4.30pm 55 A workshop for complete beginners to come along and have a go at drawing in a relaxed and supportive environment. Starting with short exercises, the workshop will move onto longer projects as the day progresses. The group will draw inspiration from the 164 Annual Open Exhibition and other relevant examples. Suitable for all abilities. Workshops
