Working patterns in the hair and beauty industry. Career opportunities. Training and career opportunities in the hair and beauty sector.

3 WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO You will need to research and create an assignment, showing understanding of this unit. You will need to include pictures, present your work neatly and to a high standard (preferably on computer). You are allowed to cut pictures from magazines and newspapers, or from posters. You need to identify where you gathered your information from, make reference to authors, web sites, books etc. remember to create a bibliography at the end of your assignment identifying these sources. Your assignment should have a front sheet, index, introduction, body, conclusion and bibliography.

Research prices of services in salons either on the internet, magazines, or ask salon s for price lists, work out the average price of each service.

9 HAIRDRESSING SERVICES AVAILABLE Services Describe the service Average price Wet cut Blow dry Shampoo and set Colour Perm Hair up Gent s cut Shampooing and conditioning hair, cutting hair into shape, client leaves without styling the hair. Shampooing and styling the hair, stylist uses a hand held hairdryer, tools and products to shape the hair. Shampooing the hair, using product to give the style some body and hold, placing rollers in the hair to form a curl, placing the client under a hooded dryer to set the hair into shape, dress the hair into desired result. Varies from root application colour to full head of foils, product choice will very depending on the desired result. Shampooing the hair and placing perming rods in the hair following a pattern, this process permanently changes the structure of the hair and the curl will have to grow out. Styling the hair from dry into a dressed look, usually ornamentation will be added to enhance the style. Dealing with clients, carrying out services the client would like, after care advice, selling products. Cutting and styling gent s hair, beards, shaving. Dealing with client s, giving treatments and after care advice, selling products. Creating a finished look as required by the client, advising client on product choice and application, selling products. Manicure, pedicure, acrylic and gel nails, providing a service and dealing with clients, offer after care advice and sell products. A person who is appointed to oversee the running of the salon on a daily basis. First contact clients have with the salon, first impressions, needs to be polite, efficient and able to communicate well with clients, a bilingual receptionist would be preferred.

Training and teaching in a salon or college environment. Assessing stylist s competency at fulfilling their role.
