3 Regulation on Animal Health State of Play Commission legal proposal adopted 6 May 2013 The European Parliament has adopted a first reading opinion in April 2014 just before the end of its term ( ) The new European Parliament ( ) has just confirmed that opinion in September 2014 The Council of the European Union is expected to deliver its negotiating mandate in autumn 2014 The co-legislators largely support the principles of the initial Commission proposal Final adoption of the new Animal Health Regulation is expected in 2015, with a transitional period of 36 months for it to take effect in 2018
