2 Méribel, ski resort in the heart of the 3 valleys A bit of history 1936 Scotsman Peter Lindsay started his search for a new winter resort 1938 The first lift was built above the village of Les Allues 1950 Creation of the Burgin-Saulire lift, linking Méribel to Courchevel Building of infrastructure. Méribel becomes one of the best equipped resorts for winter tourism with a 40,000 bed capacity 2000 Creation of the first high speed 8-seater lift in France. The resort hosted the women s alpine skiing and ice hockey at the 1992 WINTER OLYMPICS IN Albertville. Méribel really is heart of the 3 Valleys with links to both Val Thorens and Courchevel. To date the resort is made up of 330 slopes : THAT S 600 km to enjoy, whatever your ability. 3 fis alpine skiing worldcup finals 18 th to 22 nd march will be an important year for Méribel and for all skiing fans. This unforgettable event, at the heart of the 3 Valleys, will give France the opportunity to host for the 1 st time the Skiing World Cup from the 18th to the 22nd March The season s top 25 athletes from each discipline will come head to head on the Roc de Fer. The objective being to lift their cateogry trophy, or even better, to receive the title of best skier of the season. Come to Méribel and experience the excitement of this final stage of the World Cup.
