GNH\Møder\19. september 2012\Minutes September GNH.docx 2.0 Approval of agenda The agenda was approved. 3.0 What do GNH graduates do after graduation What do we know about the 108 students who have graduated until now Graduate survey 2011; status on action plan see enclosure Employers survey 2012 Hanne Gillett told about the results from the graduate survey from 2011, where 6 out of the 22 graduates who answered the survey had a relevant job. This autumn Metropol is doing a survey among the employers of graduates from the different programmes at Metropol. It has been a challenge to get enough data to run a survey at GNH. Instead GNH will do telephone interviews with the employers. GNH has done a great job collecting data on further education, workplaces and employers of 85 graduates from GNH: 10 graduates have a full time permanent job 25 approximately have had a temporary or a permanent full time job 4 graduates are unemployed 70 graduates are taking further education some of them have had a job previously 1

2 Which kind of jobs do the graduates have and where? Previa Sundhed, Maersk Butchers Lab Thulebasen Sundhedsstyrelsen, Grønland Alettica, consultant Kindergarden Chef at Wagamama Københavns Madhus Sundhedscenter Tårnby Technical & research associate; NSF International (Public Health and Safety Company) in India Several of the graduates have had internships in the same company as a stepping stone before getting a job. Why do so many graduates take further education? Most of the international students have always wanted a master The crises worldwide makes it more difficult to get a job and further education is a way to push off job-seeking In Denmark we have many graduates with a nutrition background and it is a general problem for them to get a job 4.0 The core identity of GNH What is the core identity of the profession Global Nutrition & Health? Which employers does GNH target? o GNH in general o The specialization Public Health Nutrition & Food Policy o The specialization Lifestyle & Health Education How is GNH branded to support the graduates to get jobs? The Educational Committee had different questions: What is the vision of GNH, what was the vision from the start? There was a need for the education on bachelor level in the field in global public health and nutrition Have you looked to other countries if any educations are alike? At the time being we could not find any other BA educations aiming the target lifestyle coaching. The combination Public Health Nutrition and Food Policy is unique. The students have been creative in finding their internships and many of them are very good at pointing out future possibilities for tasks and jobs at the placements they have been at. 2

3 As an employer it is difficult to see what GNH represents. What are your professional standards? What distinguishes GNH graduates from other professions ex. nutrition, epidemiology, biochemistry, dieticians outside of Denmark etc., nurses who take extra courses, physiotherapists? What is special for the GNH graduates from both lines are their ability to work in intercultural settings combined with a global and interdisciplinary approach setting up interventions within nutrition and health. Advices from the Educational Committee The content and the methods might be the same; the intercultural perspective is something very special. Define the intercultural competences. Try to work together with the municipalities and get information about what they need. Try to think offer and demand. Does GNH response to the demands and the specific needs in the society in the Danish and international context? GNH can brand the competences by making case stories 5.0 The strategy of Metropol and GNH > The 7 building blocks see enclosure for further information Hanne Gillett gave a short presentation of the strategy process in Metropol. All the programs will in September write a point of departure analysis and point out three priorities in which they will work on in GNH will focus on: 1. Research and development. 50% of the teachers have a ph.d. and are as such used to founding, research and development. 2. Learning and teaching environment and tools The multicultural culture is a challenge pedagogically, how do we teach in a multi cultural context? 3. Recruitment Recruiting dedicated Danish and international students. Comments from the Educational Committee: It is a good priority to focus on research because without a research you don t develop. Be realistic maybe your research can be seen in

4 6.0 Information and enclosure in the Educational Committee In GHN we have a challenge because the head language in Metropol is Danish and Metropol does not have a clear policy about how to communicate in English. The Educational Committee decided that the Educational Committee will receive important documents and abstracts in English and in the case there are relevant longer documents in Danish these will be linked or attached as well. 7.0 Information The following information can be elaborated on the request of the members of the Educational Committee: Finances for 2013: Based on the suggestion for the finances in DK for 2013 the result for Metropol will most probably be a reduction of 11.5 million compared to This is based on: o Rate reductions of app. 3.5 million o Absence of globalization founding of app 37.0 million o New research founding of app million Admission 2012, 64 students are admitted: o 50 KOT students; 23 Danish students and 27 international students. 10 students were admitted by standby as 2 Danes and 8 international students refused the admission o 13 Non-EU students from Zambia, Zaire, Libya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal, the Philippines, and Mexico Staff: o Ellen Barcley has resigned by the 1 st of June o Gitte Vonsild has resigned by the 1 st of September o Charlida Svastisalee is employed by august 15 th 2012 o Vanmala Hiranandani will start by the end of September o Janne Mortensen has been recruited as a part-time teacher. o Silke Künstler has been recruited as a student assistant by the end of June. Implementing the new curriculum proceeds as planned. Accreditation. GNH has to go through an accreditation process in autumn 2013 and shall be handing in the accreditation application in January GNH has started the process and will be working on the 17 criteria for the next 1½ year. The 4

5 accreditation will be discussed at a meeting next year. (See enclosure for further information about the 17 criteria) Inger Schrøder described that Metropol is working on defining a building strategy. At the board meeting on the 22 nd of October the Board will decide one of three scenarios. This decision will have a great influence on the placement of GNH in the future. Meetings to come: December 5 th 2012, 9-11 Astrid can t make it. March 13 th 2013, 9-11 May 22 nd 2013, 9-11 September 18 th 2013, 9-11 November 27 th 2013, The external members shall select a spokesperson The spokes person will participate in a meeting with the board of Metropolitan University College and other spoke persons on October 22 nd from 9:00-13:00.
