Compunnel was selected to help LifeWatch with its existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) like application, SoftAid Application Modernization (SoftAid.) SoftAid was the backbone application of LifeWatch s back-end system. It was an ERP-like system, developed primarily as a medical-billing solution. It provided the means and tools to manage patients, medical services/treatments, products/devices, product inventory, product orders, clinics, doctors, claims, payments, billing, insurance carriers, payers and more. SoftAid was developed in Visual FoxPro, and installed as a stand-alone Windows application, interfacing with an SQL Server 2008 database at the backend. Compunnel partnered with LifeWatch to address its growing needs, do a comprehensive business need analysis, and proposed a complete revamped ERP application solution that met all the desired requirements. The final ERP solution used.net Framework 4.5 and SQL Server Enterprise Edition to create a seamless user experience and achieve business results. 3 Challenges & Compunnel s Customized Solution The Customer s Business Challenges LifeWatch was experiencing challenges with the existing system which resulted in their desire to redevelop the application. These challenges included: Poor user experience due to the use of existing limited technology Use of FoxPro which did not support many features. Desktop-based application and hence not accessible online Hard to customize leads due to the backlog of product enhancements Data Architecture was not optimized Data was not normalized The company was looking for experienced professionals who could guide and help them right from planning of functional modules to the execution of the complete ERP system. Operating Environment -IIS NET Framework 4.5 -SQL SERVER Enterprise Edition - At a high level, Compunnel followed a phased approach to this modernization project in order to allow staggered releases of the application into the production environment. Compunnel s Application Modernization Solution: ERP Application Architecture As an approach to revamp and enhance the existing SoftAid application, Compunnel split the ERP application into functional modules. Further, the existing program was divided into logical business components such as patients, orders, inventory, etc. The existing FoxPro code and screens were converted using a new programming language and multiple functionalities were added for each business component. The basic components & main modules included Device Management, Clinic Management, Doctor Management, Patient Management, Security Administration, Payment Register, Order Management, Claim Management, and Master Data Management. Each main module comprised different components., For example, the Patient Management module included demographics, enrollment, patient search, insurance (primary, secondary & additional,) memo, shipping, recall, document, ledger (charges & remittances,) device history, index, and Atrial Fibrillation Patient Care (AFPC) Schedule. - The basic components & modules included: Device Management, Clinic Management, Doctor Management, Patient Management, Security Administration, Payment Register, Order Management, Claim Management and Master Data Management. Features for the new application included: Highly Intuitive: Extra care was taken to ensure that the user interface was extremely intuitive for greater acceptance and a seamless user experience. Web-based Application: The application was a standalone web-based solution, accessible through compatible web browsers. Robust Security: Role and functionality based security was developed enabling various combinations of security levels with different users. Scalability: The number of users was increased by enhancing the server configuration. Performance: With the use of Microsoft technologies, the compiled application was hosted resulting in improved performance. In addition, stored procedures were effectively used to harness SQL Server capabilities. Connectivity: The application can be connected from a remote location via the internet/ intranet. Maintainability: The application has a modular design and is well-documented so that it is easyto-maintain. Online Alert: The possibility of tracking errors online and sending immediate alerts to the Admin. group ensured prompt action to resolve the issue at hand. Dashboard: The Dashboard was created to give greater access to the Management and Staff Compunnel Software Group
