AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION 150 East 42nd Street, 17th Floor, New York, NY A week-long systematic and comprehensive examination of the law and practice of international arbitration. The course, features both lecture and interactive segments, and is designed for arbitrators, advocates, in-house counsel and others interested in international arbitration. The course is a CLE (CPD) course for which NY State CLE credit will be available. Upon completion, all attendees will receive a certificate of completion from both Columbia Law School and the Chartered Institute. A fast-track route towards Fellowship in the Chartered institute through the Pathway. This course, includes both candidate assessment and an award writing examination (CI Arb Module 4). It assesses whether the candidate has sufficient knowledge required to apply the principles and procedure of international arbitration based on the UNCITRAL Model Law and UNCITRAL Rules. Upon successful completion of this course, an applicant will have completed all the course requirements for Institute Fellowship. The course instructors include pre-eminent international arbitrators and counsel, law professors and representatives of the ICDR and ICC. The course, which culminates in an award writing examination, assesses whether the candidate has the requisite knowledge required to analyze submissions, arrive at a conclusion and write a final, reasoned and enforceable arbitration award in compliance with the UNCITRAL Model Law and Rules. This course is only open to qualified candidates who can demonstrate they have sufficient background and experience in international arbitration. NOTE: Before registering for the Fellowship course (or both courses if you intend to sit for both), we STRONGLY ADVISE you to send Peter Michaelson, Chair - NY Branch, an briefly describing your background and experience in international arbitration. Historically, the course co-directors have found that those attendees, who do not possess sufficient and experience in international arbitration, had considerable difficulty in passing the award writing exam given at the end of the Fellowship course. While we cannot guarantee that a registrant will pass the examination, having that knowledge and experience is likely to enhance that registrant s prospects of doing so. We will review the description you send and respond with our view as to whether you are qualified to take the course. Please do not register until you hear back from us. If you only want to take the Columbia course, you can immediately register for it as there are no pre-requisites for that course. Should the course be cancelled, a full refund will be made to all registrants. Information Regarding New York CLE Credits: Application for New York accreditation of this program is currently pending. Columbia Law School has been certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Board as an Accredited Provider of CLE programs. Under New York State CLE regulations, once a program has been approved to provide CLE credit, that program will provide a predefined number of credit hours, as specified in its approval, that can be applied toward the Areas of Professional Practice requirement for experienced attorneys only. Once approval is received, CLE credit will be awarded only for full attendance of the course in its entirety. Attorneys attending only part of the course are not eligible for partial credit for it, although they are most welcome to attend it. Attendance is determined by an attorney s sign-in and sign-out, as shown in the course s registers. Please note that there will be a separate register for each day of the course, with sign-out and sign-in required for each one.
